Am I the only who senses some heightened melodrama since Fodor's started featuring some "popular" questions on its front page? The narratives and surveys and thought-provoking-questions-of-the-moment seem to be flourishing while general travel questions wither and die. Everyone seems to want their fifteen minutes of fame, pathetically enough, as the "stars" of the front page of Fodors. Ah well, what can you expect? We all exist within the cult of celebrity these days, where appearance is valued far more than substance.

Australians call it the "tall poppy" syndrome. Any poppy that gets too tall and stands out gets whacked at. <BR>Happens here at fodors and on the European forum (where I more frequently reside) all the time, IMHO.

Why would I give my name to this stuff? Just a little perspective: on other threads, there's none of this silly, egotistical stuff. We have the good fortune of reading solid travel questions and answers. I do feel sorry for the good folks that bother to talk repeatedly on this thread, and on others like it. Go to work, Fodors, and drop these folks off, and obliterate these destructive threads before they grow too big.
