No problems expected in Durham. Haven't done any preparations either. If I was in a more coastal area I might have done something. Still have a couple of gallons of water left over from last year.

My thoughts are for those in the storm's path. Gas the car, get cash from the ATM, do the laundry now. Stock up on supplies and make sure you have a manual can opener.

Everyone please remember to never drive through water you cannot determine the depth of. The road may have washed away.

Wasn't Floyd the storm that flooded the state so badly?

We appreciate the thoughts. Like ncgirl, I live in Durham. All I have done is get the umbrella out a lot. Those heavy thunderstorms always seem to hit right at 5:00 for the start of my long commute home. A co-worker unfortunately took the week off to be at the beach...

You hanging in there obxgirl?

Last update I saw, Hurricane Alex had 90 mph sustained winds and was expected to strengthen.

Between Floyd, Bertha, Dennis, Irene and I can't remember all the names you guys keep getting hit.

Continuing to have lotsa rain here in Raleigh, but Alex is supposed to begin heading up the coast and out to sea very soon.

The OBX may have some large waves and rain, but the wind should not be too bad, as the high winds are on the eastern eyewall.

They did say this morning, however, that the last time we had a hurricane this early was in 1996, and that was the year we got slammed with Fran, and also the year we made it to the letter "M" in named storms.

I am leaving for Jamaica in a few weeks and hope this will not be an "active" hurricane year!
