NC or SC Coast for summer vacay?
 

Hello!
My husband and I have just moved to Charlotte. I'm the designated vacation planner of the group and my friends have decided that a beach house for a week is our plan for summer 07. I'm trying to research different beaches in NC/SC but am running into some difficulty, of course Myrtle Beach is one of our top choices. There are 6 of us, we are in late 20's early 30's, no children. Is Myrtle Beach the place for us? My goal is to find a place that is nice, not overly expensive and not overrun by families. I realize that there are families everywhere, but as long as there are a few places we can go out and have a few drinks we are a-ok. Thoughs? Suggestions?

Sounds like MB is probably the place for you. Maybe North Myrtle for a house. Or Garden City or Surfside.
Expense will be relative for a house.
Just about everywhere on the beaches will get you what you say. MB will get you more "night club' type things.

Yes, if you want bars and night life, Myrtle Beach however Wild Dunes would be an idea for downtown Charleston fun.

I might try a beach up near Wilmington. I much prefer Wilmington to MB.

What beach up near Wilmington is going to give them a beach house plus night life for a late 20s to early 30s group?

Anyway, let the Myrtle Beach bashing begin I guess.

By the way, Gretchen and GoTravel have it right. With the possibility of easily going into Mount Pleasant or Charleston from Wild Dunes, that would be a more upscale experience than MB. But you can make MB into either a low-budget affair or a more upscale vacation by your lodging, location, and dining choices. MB is no longer homogenous.

Now see, I didn't bash MB!! I think Wrightsville will have the night life for young folks but the beach house may be a problem.

Not bashing, just offering alternatives. Much of the MB nightlife lends itself to younger crowds much of the time. Even younger than the OP (in my opinion). The beach house v. nightlife is a difficult combo to achieve as the two don't typcially reside in the same area w/out a bit of a drive in many cases.

No, lots of MB nightlife lends itself to 20+, all ages actually.

20s-40s Broadway at the Beach; Celebrity Square nightclubs

30s-60s Croc Rocks, Studebakers, 2001, Hot Fish Club, Murrells Inlet, Ocean Drive and shagging.

That's just to name a few in Myrtle Beach.

My family stays in Topsail Beach/Topsail Island each summer. We spend a day in Wilmington shopping...as Wilmington is only 30 minutes or so away from Topsail. Topsail has several restaurants and is such a beautiful beach!

Topsail is great, but I always think of it as a very quiet place. It certainly doesn't have much nightlife and I wouldn't want to drive to Wilmington for that. I agree with whoever said that MB was what you make of it. There is certainly plenty to do there, and a nice beach.
