NBC studio tour
 

My husband and I are going to NYC in March and were told by a relative not to miss the NBC tour. Has anyone gone? It's only about an hour and $17.75 per person. We do plan to go over to the Today show one morning, but we have lots of other things we want to see and do as well. Is it worth the time and money?

I took the tour a couple of years ago and found it interesting. Some people will say not to waste your money, but I thought the technical aspects were quite interesting...even more so than the actual set tours. Just don't bet on seeing your favorite NBC set. :)

IMO, it's worth the nominal fee and time if you don't get to NYC often, but others may beg to differ.

My mother and I did this tour a year ago. I don't regret doing it, but it wasn't a highlight of our trip or anything like that. I'd say if you have the time and this sort of thing interests you, you might like it. I guess I just wouldn't put it at the top of my list.

I took this tour in 2002 and thought it was well worth the time and money. It was really interesting to learn so much about the network and how television operate. I definitely recommend it.

I understand the Lincoln Center tour is very good. Did you ask your relative what in particular was so great about the NBC tour in their opinion? Could help you make up your mind.

I would pass and go to the Museum of Television and Radio instead, and maybe get FREE tickets to a show taping to satisfy the "only in NYC" factor.

I had a private all-access tour of NBC with an employee and found it to be sorta ho-hum. Maybe the info from the docent would make it more worthwhile.

I thought is was a big waste of time and money. Other than seeing the studio where SNL if shot, there was nothing. Instead, see about getting tickets (free) to any talk show filmed in NY. You may think the talk shows are stupid, but watching how they are produced is quite interesting.

we took the tour last winter - I'd give it a C+ parts were interesting, parts (like making you wait in their candy/rip off souvenir store) were bad. Not alot backstage, except the SNL stage we saw Drew Barrymore reherse. If you have time, it's OK the museum of radio and tv is a museum... not a fair comparision.

Great to get your opinions. You all mostly sound pretty lukewarm about the tour. We don't get to New York that often living on the West Coast and our time will be way too valuable to waste doing something that sounds just ho-hum. Think we may just skip it.

Tour is okay, and it's not a waste of time. However, the price is ridiculous. I guess they can charge whatever they can, as there doesn't seem to be a shortage of visitors.
