Nave you heard of taking Nettles for altitude adjustment?

I was told that to prevent being effected by altitude sickness I should take either a tincture or tea of the herb Nettles. Has anyone heard anything of this? I am going to Colorado and then driving to Santa Fe and not doing anything strenuous. Is there anything to be concerned about it?

No, it was not Nettles. There is a thread, either here or on European board. I think it was Gingko Biloba.

OK, found the thread discussing altitude and herbs to take:

If you're not doing anything strenuous I really wouldn't worry too much about the altitude. I never even noticed it in Colorado until I started hiking, and then I really noticed it!!

Herbs and such are not capitalized.

My sister went into a chinese herbal shop in Santa Fe and they are the ones that suggested Nettles. This is the first time I heard of Gingko for altitude. I am curious what it is made of.

my wife drinks nettles tea to soothe her. i don't think it works.

Oh, ALTITUDE adjustment...when I first glanced at it, I thought it said ATTITUDE adjustment and was thinking that just what the board needs these days!!! :D

drink extra water and less alcohol. you will be fine.

LoveItaly Nov 9th, 2005 06:36 PM

LOL Crefloors!!!! Yes, an attitude adjustment on Fodor's would be a "good thing"..I will be good and not suggest whom I have in mind. Take care!

CaliNurse Nov 9th, 2005 07:47 PM

LOL, crefloors and LoveItaly!! I too thought it said "ATTITUDE" adjustment and wondered where I could buy nettles. The stinging variety are good for self-flagellation.

LoveItaly Nov 9th, 2005 08:04 PM

Hi CaliNurse, I imagine you have a better attitude today after hearing about the election results, am I right? ;;) Maybe the herb Nettles needs to be shipped up to Sacramento, you think?? Take good care.

CaliNurse Nov 9th, 2005 09:47 PM

Hi LoveItaly-- yes, you're right!!! Good to hear from you. I used that flashlight in New York!
Poor Ahhhhhnold. I admit I voted for him last time. Wha' happened!!!???? Better quit this talk --have been embroiled in enough controversy of late.
Juldie, apologies for my getting off topic. If you're not doing anything strenuous, I wouldn't worry about it. But are you going with someone--so that just in case you do feel a bit weak or nauseated, you'll be able to relinquish the driving?

I take freeze dried stinging nettle for sinus congestion during pollen season. It definately works for that. Did you try googling to see what you find? Or look at Dr. Weil's website.

My sister thought since I sometimes get asthmatic during allergy season that breathing difficulties could be an issue in Santa Fe and Denver for me. That is why she was concerned. Thanks for all your input.
