Native American sites

We're thinking of going to spring training in AZ and making a side trip to Sedona and the Grand Canyon. Are there any interesting Native American sites on the way or reasonably nearby?

visit the Canyon de Chelly. Be sure to take the four hour jeep tour into the canyon.

Canyon de Chelly is fabulous but a BIG detour from Sedona. There are some great sites around Flagstaff that are a bit easier. I'd strongly recommend Wupatki and Walnut Canyon.

Close to Phoenix is Casa Grande National Monument (not located in the city of Casa Grande, but in nearby Coolidge) A recent article said that is is deteriorating fast, so see it while you can.

Right in Phoenix is Pueblo Grande - a small but ineteresting site showing some Hohokam ruins. Also in north Phoenix is a park with petroglyphs.

On the way to Sedona/Grand Canyon, I would stop at Montezma's Castle and also make the side trip to Montezuma's Well. Nearby is also Tuzigoot NM. Near Flagstaff are Wupatki/Sunset Crater NM and Walnut Creek NM. Of these, Montezuma's Castle is the most impressive, Montezuma's Well is my favorite, and Wupatki the most extensive.

Get a National Parks pass and you will save money if you visit most of these.

If you will be going to see any CUbs games, it is good to get those tickets as soon as they are available.

Thanks, folks, great recommendations.

Bigtyke. No, not the Cubs. We'll be going to visit a Senior Citizen's Club known as the SF Giants.
