national park during thanksgiving
is there a good national park to visit during thanksgiving, where it wont be snowed out, roads closed etc. interested in hiking and beautiful scenery. been to the grand canyon multiple times, so would prefer other options

Yosemite, but it is probably booked in terms of accommodations; a last minute cancellation might allow you to stay in the park. The valley floor has relatively little snow, there is a shuttle to the ski resort where snowshoes can be rented to hike around in the woods.

This might meet your needs:
https://www.nps.gov/cany/planyourvisit/hours.htm I like to refer to this place as "the Grand Canyon before the tourists found it." Not quite as beautiful, but it's still spectacular, with fantastic hiking possibilities. The Park itself will be open on Thanksgiving Weekend, but the Visitor Centers will be closed on TG Day itself. Note that a blizzard MIGHT come through and dump a foot of snow on this area in late November -- unlikely, but still POSSIBLE. Be prepared to alter your plans if necessary. |
Death Valley or Big Bend

My DD just sent me a pamphlet "Hiking in Haleakala".
For information on Wilderness campgrounds and cabin reservations, use www.recreation dot gov - type in Haleakala at the prompt. DD likes Maui a lot more than Oahu. Hawaii will be my 50th state in a couple years. |
Oh, please. WHERE are you.
Smokey Mountains AND many others. Do some research. Troll |
