National Harbor
We (2 adult retirees) will be staying at the Wyndham National Harbor. Before you suggest that we cancel, we can't. It's time share points (use them or lose them) and we don't have much budget to pay for a hotel. That said, I have a couple of questions for you experts.
1. Transportation to/and from downtown area. What is the best way?
2. Others have said the Branch Street Station area is not safe to wait for a bus. Is this true or exaggerated? We most likely would not be out after dark.
3. Good (inexpensive) breakfast places either near the Metro or in Naional Harbor.
Thanks in advance for any info you can offer.

Don't they have a boat to the District?
I pass by this a fair amount and was curious, so I googled it. I don't think there is much of anything out there yet except that which is part of the development -- hotels and chain restaurants -- but that is from googling, not from feet on the ground.

Here is the National Harbor website:

The bus that goes to the Branch Avenue Metrorail station:

There is a watertaxi to Alexandria, VA but I don't believe there is one to DC.

If the Metro you are referring to here is the Branch Avenue station, I think that is a station complex, not a station in the middle of a town or anything.

I stayed at the Gaylord National Harbor. There are many restaurants in the national harbor area, and no shortage of good ones, plus you can purchase food there. There is a water taxi. We had a car so I don't know about the public transportation situation. Can you call and ask at one of the many major hotels in that area?

I suspect that on that bus route your fellow passengers will be other tourists or people who work at National Harbor. Have you asked your hotel about transport to DC? Surely they get that request several times an hour and will have answers for you.
