National Geographic in DC?

I'm taking my husband to DC in September - I'm guessing that the National Geographic Society is headquartered in DC? Can you visit? Is there a visitor center/museum that's worth seeing?

They have exhibitions on the ground floor of their headquarters building. It's free and sometimes their exhibitions are pretty cool. The building is at 17th and M Streets, NW.

Here's the website for the Explorer's Hall at the National Geographic Society. You can find out what the current exhibits are as well as directions, opening hours, etc.
