Make that a cheeseburger, fries, and chocolate milkshake (or root beer float) followed with, of course, apple pie.

cassidy2002 Sep 22nd, 2003 12:17 PM

Yep! Cheeseburger, cheeseburger, cheeseburger!! But also meatloaf? Isn't that distinctly American? And also BBQ? Like good ol' Southern BBQ? Smoked brisket, ribs, etc. Yummmm, getting hungry just thinking about it.

jnn1964 Sep 22nd, 2003 12:17 PM

Chili!

Loki Sep 22nd, 2003 12:17 PM

Pizza

Ryan Sep 22nd, 2003 12:20 PM

I'll aim a bit higher on the culinary scale and say turkey. I've rarely found it on menus outside the US and it is the one dish that essentially defines a holiday. Can you say that about a cheeseburger?

gc Sep 22nd, 2003 12:37 PM

Huh?

What about a hot dog?

utahtea Sep 22nd, 2003 12:38 PM

Haven't you ever heard the expression "American as Apple Pie"

Utahtea

leslie Sep 22nd, 2003 12:50 PM

fried chicken and mashed potatoes.

J_Correa Sep 22nd, 2003 02:42 PM

All of the above!

Chele60 Sep 22nd, 2003 02:44 PM

It all sounds good, but I gotta go with the good ol' cheeseburger! Seems you just can't find a decent one outside of the US!

Wednesday Sep 22nd, 2003 03:19 PM

The best comfort food: a cheeseburger, fries and a cherry Coke. Milkshake optional but recommended.

rjw_lgb_ca Sep 22nd, 2003 03:21 PM

I like the idea of turkey. These birds were native to the Americas and popularized on dinner tables in the US, so that would be classy. Giving these butt-ugly birds their props culinarily, so to speak.

Still, I do love burgers. However, fries are Belgian (made from potatoes that got to Europe from Peru), so you may have to substitute a more pure American side dish. Boston Baked Beans? Macaroni and Cheese? Hmmm....

Jacko Sep 22nd, 2003 04:08 PM

Steak and beer
Pizza with wine
Macaroni and cheese
and cheeseburgers

Marie Sep 22nd, 2003 04:46 PM

I agree with all of the above, but would add peanut butter (or PB&J sandwiches) and corn on the cob.

Tess Sep 22nd, 2003 06:01 PM

Gotta be a cheeseburger. That's what I always crave after coming home from another country. It's kind of like Pavlov's dog--home=cheeseburger!

TxTravelPro Sep 22nd, 2003 06:25 PM

Fajitas, true Tex-Mex is unique and NOT Mexican!
It's what I crave when I travel. Oh that and a HUGE glass of Unsweet Iced Tea with GOBS of ice... not just the 2 pieces that you get in other countries.

bennnie Sep 23rd, 2003 06:20 AM

Definately turkey, stuffing/dressing, mashed potatos, cranberry sauce, green beans - the archtypical Thanksgiving Dinner. Nothing more American than that.

SteveJudd Sep 23rd, 2003 07:23 AM

Confederate States of America- Pork Barbeque, Fried Chicken for Supper. Hominy Grits, Home Fries and Country Ham for Breakfast.

zootsi Sep 23rd, 2003 07:32 AM

How about meatloaf or tuna casserole? It's hard to find an American dish that didn't have it's origins in Europe, like hot dogs, pizza, french fries, etc.

carolyn Sep 23rd, 2003 08:25 AM

SteveJudd, my grandmother served fried chicken for breakfast, along with hot biscuits and milk gravy.

FainaAgain Oct 29th, 2003 12:41 PM

JandaO Oct 29th, 2003 02:48 PM

We have some great salads here in this country, thank goodness :)

Gothampc Oct 29th, 2003 04:31 PM

Fluffernutters and carrot sticks

Patrick Oct 29th, 2003 04:41 PM

Can you say Buffalo chicken wings?

djkbooks Oct 29th, 2003 05:41 PM

It was "baseball, hot dogs, apple pie, and CHEVROLET". Should be resurrected any day now...

Calamari Oct 29th, 2003 05:52 PM

marshmellows. All trolls love to roast them over an open fire.

BrimhamRocks Oct 29th, 2003 06:47 PM

I like to roast trolls over an open fire, but that's just me. :)

Borealis Oct 29th, 2003 07:12 PM

Isn't calamari a Greek dish??

Calamari Oct 29th, 2003 08:02 PM

Borealis -
It is Italian for squid. I love it fried or marinated, tenticals and all. Almost wrote the wrong thing.
