Natchitoches over Thanksgiving without reservations?

Hubby and I (both seniors) would like to visit Natchitoches over the Thanksgiving holiday. We are not interested in B&Bs, prefer a motel or hotel. Is this a busy time for Natchitoches? Can we just drive in and find a good place to stay easily?

If not, does anyone have any suggestions about where to stay? We would like to pay under $100/nt.

We would arrive on Wed and leave on Sun . . . suggestions on what plantations to visit and where to eat would be appreciated. I've done a search here but the posts are not too current.

Thanks in advance,
Sandy (in Denton)

Hi Sandy. My wife and I are seniors as well and will be glad to assist you in any way we can. Natchitoches is always busy but you should not have any difficulty with the accommodations you describe. The plantations you will want to visit are Oakland and Melrose. Oakland is a National Park and is free. Melrose has a modest admission charge. There are numerous restaurants. We enjoy Merci Beaucoup, Lasyones, The Landing, the Mariner, Sea and Sirloin. There are several more. We have a tour company and our website www.tournatchitocheswithbarbara.com has lots of info about Natchitoches. Call or e-mail us if we can help with more info or room reservations. You do not have to book a tour with us for us to help you. If you do decide to take one of our tours, like the "Steel Magnolias Tour", we would love that and the chance to get to know you. Let us know if we can be of help. We are glad you are coming to our City and want your trip to fun and a memorable one. Doyle and Barbara Bailey

We stayed in a small hotel that used to be a bank in the downtown area. I think it was the Church Street Inn. It was lovely and had a balcony on an upper story to sit on.

You can pick up a free Steel Magnolias map at the C of C but I would guess a tour would be more informative. It's not a large town and is easy to find your way around in.
