Nashville to Naples
 

Looking to drive from Nashville to Naples. Can anyone recommend an interesting route. Also any tips of places to visit while staying in Nashville. We will be there for about a week before heading to Naples.

The most direct route takes you through Chattanooga, which has several fun things to do (Lookout Mountain, the Tennessee Aquarium, and a great downtown among others). It also takes you through Atlanta. There are plenty of things to see there - just plan on getting stuck in traffic. After that, the drive down I-75 isn't all that interesting. Depending on how much time you're willing to add to the trip, you could go over to Savannah and then head down the eastern coast of Florida, through St. Augustine and Jacksonville, maybe cutting over to the west coast through Orlando.

Alternatively, you could go through Alabama. Huntsville has the space center. Birmingham and Montgomery have some civil rights attractions (if one can call them that). You could go down to Mobile and then cut across the Florida panhandle, though I imagine if you're heading to Naples, you'll get the beach there. Personally if I were looking to make a road trip out of it, I'd pick the Chattanooga/Atlanta/east coast option.

As far as Nashville - any particular interests? My top three things here are the Country Music Hall of Fame (really well done, and I don't especially enjoy country music), the Ryman (the backstage tour is a lot of fun), and seeing a show (the Grand Ole Opry is a great choice, but there's tons of other live music around town, mostly rock and folk/Americana). There are Civil War sites (Carnton Plantation in Franklin, for one), Belle Meade Plantation, the Hermitage (Andrew Jackson's home), shopping, etc. The Jack Daniels distillery is a popular day trip (though you could also do that on the drive between Nashville and Chattanooga).

Longer but straight south to Gulf of Mexico hang a left on I-10 will get you to white beaches quicker.

The Panhandle may provide white beaches closer, but in January or February they are likely to be some 20 to 30 degrees colder than the beaches in Naples.

Is there any must sees visiting Savannah, St Augustine and Jacksonville. We are not on a tight schedule so have plenty of time to explore.

There are tons of threads here on Savannah and St. Augustine - if you type either in the search box above, you'll find a lot of information that will let you choose what looks interesting to *you*. Chattanooga and Jacksonville aren't quite as well covered, but you should find some information on those as well (despite the fact that the above poster looks to be advertising for the aquarium in Chattanooga, it really is great and is one of the top attractions there).
