Nashville/Smoky Mountains with a 3 yr old?

Hi! My husband is working out of Nashville for a short while and I was wondering if a 2.5 day trip to Nashville & to smoky mountains with my 3 yr old son is worth it. I am combing the forums and looking online - not finding a lot of info on what kids can do. He is a good sport when it comes to long drives and we have done camping trips with him. Any advise on whether I should make this trip? I am finding good flight deals into Nashville flying in Wednesday late night and leaving Sunday morning.

The Smokey Mountains are a 4 hour drive from Nashville. That would be a lot of sitting in cars and planes. There is a lot you could do in Nashville. Centennial Park is great for running around. There is a playground and small lake with walking trails. It also houses the replica of the Parthenon. Bicentennial Mall is a park that showcases the history of TN. They have fountains that come out of the groudn and kids love to romp through them. It is located next to the farmers market. The Opryland hotel has indoor gardens and a little river boat ride.

Lots of other historic things to do as well.

You may better served to fly into Knoxville & have your husband pick you up there. It would certainly cut down on the drive time (for you). We just returned from the Mts this past weekend & my kids spent a huge amount of time just playing in the creek/waterfall behind our cabin. Also did some hiking & letterboxing (my way of getting them to hike while also 'treasure hunting'). If you are not familiar, take a look here - www.atlasquest.com

Wow - SAnParis2 - thanks for the info on letterboxing, sounds interesting!

just chilling in the water sounds like a great idea. What is the temp. there in mid-June? Can I get more info on the "cabins" you mentioned?

trvlgirlmq - thanks for all the info on things to do in nashville. Will think about whether to just stick to Nashville or actually go to SM.

We typically use vrbo.com for the Mts., w/no trouble whatsoever.
