Nashville Opryland Hotel-??/
 

Any comments on Nashville's Opryland Hotel??I have heard very different opinions. Any recent stays??

While I did not stay there, I was not all that impressed when we to the President Kennedy exhibit there. It's a Las Vegas sized hotel that is not really close to anything but an outlet shopping mall. I would recommend you stay downtown (IMHO).

Do you have a downtown recommendation? Have you stayed at the Doubletree or the Renassaince?

We stayed at the Renassaince. While I would not hesitate to stay there again, experience tells me the Doubletree would be a nicer hotel. I'm not sure how much free time you'll have (not sure if this is business or pleasure trip) but would encourage you to check out the Parthenon replica. It's located in the city park across the street from Vanderbilt University. I have to admit I was skeptical to say the least. However, we found it to be very interesting and well worth the visit. Enjoy!

If I did not stay at Opryland Hotel, I would most certainly visit it during my trip. It is worth the $5 parking fee to walk around. I would also take in a Grand Ole Opry performance while there. I do think teh hotel is pricy and would also recommend staying downtown where many things are going on. Downtown is very safe as compared to most big cities. The Courtyard is a good location. Hope that this helps.

It's worth a visit but I wouldn't stay there. We paid $250 per night for a very average room with a balcony. Waste of money!!! Stay downtown.

Well, the guest parking is actually $7.00 now. However, you don't have to pay. Just park in Opryland Mills (big mall nearby). There is a walkway between the mall parking lot and the hotel.

I stayed in Doubletree not very far away, since Opryland was too expensive.

Was the Doubletree the one downtown? I have also heard mixed reviews on this hotel.

There is a Doubletree Hotel in downtown. I am unsure if there is another out by Opryland. Downtown the nicest hotel is teh Hermitage. Big $ but quite an experience and located across the street from the Capitol. Much nicer than the Sherton next door. If downtown I recommend a visit to the new Nashville library. The locals are paying through the nose for this tax mecca and the locals rarely use it due to limited parking without paying an expensive parking lot fee. It is cheaper for locals to buy the book and not pay the parking fee. Great example of a momument to a mayor terrible use of public tax dollars. But for the rest of us, other than parking, it is nice to visit during a hot day.

Follow up to above post. The validated free hour parking is in the parking garage directly behind the library between 6th & 7th Ave.

My parents stayed there and said it was really expensive. RIP OFF!!

We stayed there last August. $99.00 rate we got and worth every cent. We found a special on line so it pays to shop around for the best rate. Beautiful room with a balcony over looking the garden area. Great place.

We stayed there recently on our way to Tulsa Ok and found the hotel to be HUGE. Other than that, everything was fine, we also got a decent rate for the room (not a huge room but adequate) and then saw Diamon Rio at the Grand Old Opry. If you're going to Nashville - you may as well consider staying there cause it's something else!! There's a couple thousand rooms and you can easily get turned around.

We also toured the Country Western Hall of Fame and enjoyed that too but we generally have a good time.

I live near Nashville and visit the mall next to Opryland Hotel often. Although you might not consider the Gaylord area "Classy", the music is fun. The shopping is all outlet and not wonderful, but the surroundings are nice. Be sure that if you go to the mall to eat, eat at the Chilis, that is the best there.

Looks like a minimum security prison from the outside and is worse inside. Thousands of rooms in a low-rise collection of bldgs. You can easily be 15-20 minutes from other parts of the property.

Stay downtown.

We stayed at Doubletree. Right in downtown area which is the place to stay. Make a visit to Opryland Hotel it really is something to see.

Without doubt, the best hotel in Nashville is the Loews Vanderbilt Plaza.

There is also a nice Sheraton downton that is in the State Capitol area.

My wife and I stayed at the new Marriott that is across from the Parthenon/Cennetinal Park for a conference at the end of June. I was really impressed with it.

The Opryland Hotel is a tourist destination...not a good hotel. It's where a bunch of slack-jawed people go and stay and think they're staying at a nice hotel just b/c it's expensive.
You should make the trip and see it though...if you stay downtown there's a rivertaxi that runs from the Opryland area to downtown. Catch it at the end of Broadway/1st Avenue (by the Hard Rock)

make sure to visit the Ryman museum

We weren't overly impressed with the Doubletree. I would try the Hilton Suites near the Country Music Hall of Fame. I haven't stayed there, but it looks pretty nice, and the location is good. It's close to the clubs on Broadway, too.
