Nashville/Memphis/Great Smoky Mtns

Husband and I are planning to go to Nashville/Memphis and Great Smoky Mountains for 8-10 days in October and would love to get ideas for hotels in each area. We would like quiet, mid to upper range hotels. Also wondering how many days in each area. We will be coming from the West Coast and will have a rental car. Would love to know of any special fun restaurants that locals like.

Thank you for any suggestions.

In Memphis, we loved staying at Talbot Heirs, beautiful apartment for the price of a hotel room, great location.
Our favorite BBQ sauce was at Superior.
In Gatlinburg, we stayed at a lovely cabin-there are loads of them.
Had a good meal at a Mexican restaurant up Ski Hill Rd, can't remember the name.

We typically rent cabins in the Smokies, but most of those that we've rent have minimum stay requirements so bear that in mind. Here's the last one we rented (in Cosby, which is about 20 minutes east of Gatlinburg and Greenbriar, our favorite part of the park):

Otherwise, you might try the Dancing Bear Lodge in Townsend https://dancingbearlodge.com

Bear in mind that places book up well in advance for October, although I get the sense that reservations are down since the fire.

As for how long to stay in each place, that really depends on your interests. My husband and I spend a week every other year or so in the Smokies, but we like to hike and spend nearly every day on the trails--with a day trip to Knoxville. I'd probably be happy with two nights each in both Memphis and Nashville, with the rest of the time in the Smokies. But, again, it depends on your interests.
