Nashville Hotel With 2 Small Kids
 

I am traveling with my wife and two small kids to Nashville to visit family. Our family is in the suburbs west of the city (not familiar with area) so I've been told near the airport or opryland is easier than downtown for lodging. What we really need is space--two separate bedrooms that either adjoin or a 2br suite. Price is not an object. Have read mixed things about Embassy Suites. Thanks for your input.

micks...The Hermitage that starrsville suggested is downtown.

My sister and her family stayed at the Embassy Suites in August for a wedding and it was fine.

Also in the same area is Homewood Suites. They have 2 br suites (I've stayed in them), and are decent. The Homewood Suites also have a small kitchen area with a full size fridge. The 2 br suite we had had a king bed and bath for the master and the other bedroom had 2 doubles and a bath. There is a small living area also. There were tvs in both bedrooms and the living area.

Lots of hotels in that area.

If the family you are visiting lives on the west side of Nashville you would not want to stay near the airport or Opryland. They are on the east side and somewhat isolated from the west side of Nashville where there is much better dining and shopping. You might try the Lowe's Vanderbilt Plaza or any of the chains on West End Ave. I think there is a Hampton Inn, a Doubletree and a couple of others. Good luck.

I agree - if your family is on the west side of Nashville, I don't think it would make sense to stay by the airport/Opryland. That would just mean you'd have to drive all the way across town to see them. As I live here I can't recommend specific hotels, but there are several hotels on West End near Vanderbilt. This area can get pretty crowded around rush hour, so if your main goal is to see family who lives further out, it might not be the best choice. But if it's a combined family/sightseeing visit, that area would be great. Why not ask your family for recommendations on areas?

Quite right, given that the Presidential Suite overlooks the State Capitol. I was focusing on the "price is not an option" portion of the OP, not the west vs. airport/Opryland portion of the OP.

If price were no object for me, I'd opt to stay in this 2000sf suite and commute out from downtown. I've never experienced any difficulty navigating Nashville's downtown - ESPECIALLY if I were using this suite as a home base.

micks, perhaps you should ask them again about where to stay. Now going back and reading your post, it doesn't seem likely they would tell you to stay near the airport/opryland area if they live west of the city.

I HAVE stayed at the Union Square Hotel (a Wyndham property) in downtown and have used it as a base of operations to travel throughout the Nashville/ Murfreesboro area.

IMO, a downtown base often works for me. I have found, in my personal experience only, that it is often easier to stay downtown and do a reverse commute (commute out of downtown while workers are commuting into town) than to negotiate crosstown traffic. I have found this works for me in Nashville, as well as other metro areas. Works for me - and it puts me "in town" close to restaurants, entertainment, bars, plays, etc.

I have stayed at the Opryland Hotel and it is amazing! There is so much to see and I think it is well worth the money to stay there. Depending on where your is, when your children are sleeping, you can sit on your balcony, relax, and people watch as the hotel is all enclosed. The Delta areas and the Conservatory have extra special views.

What suburb is your family in? That would help. Near the airport I would suggest the Sheraton Music City. Great indoor pool for kids.

You could go south to Brentwood or Franklin. Brentwood has a nice Holiday Inn. The Cool Springs area in Franklin has many options, and both southern suburbs would be more convenient to western suburbs than anything downtown.

Thanks for all of the helpful replies. Our family is elderly and not really in a position to help us. They are in the "Madison/Inglewood" area. Opryland is sold out and the suite at the Hermitage is not available but looks wonderful.

Madison and Inglewood are actually north/northeast of downtown, not west, so the airport recommendation makes a lot more sense. In that case, starrsville's recommendation of staying downtown would work well, I think. I'm not very familiar with that area, but you might also try the Rivergate area for hotels.

There are a lot of downtown options. Look at the Union Station and Hilton for a start.

mick, when are you going to Nashville?

We were able to get a 2br 2ba suite at the homewood suites near the airport. It looks like it will suit our needs. Thanks again to all.
