Hi all -
Never been to Nashville and are going for a ladies weekend of fun, wine, good live music and a spa treatment or two. We are in our early 30s and want to have fun. I got good rates at both Hermitage downtown (5 star) and the Loews Vanderbilt (4 star). Any preference? We want to check out the Opryland stuff for a few hours, too.

I can't comment on the hotels with the exception of the Opryland Hotel. We went for their breakfast buffet, which was pretty good, and took the boat tour around the "lobby". It's an amazing hotel, and expensive too! On the same property is Opry Mills, which is a huge outlet mall. Have fun!

Well they are in pretty different areas. The Hermitage is an historic hotel located in the downtown area. You can walk to some of the downtown attractions from there, including bars and restaurants. The Loews is a newer hotel (although still at least 15 years old) and is located (as its name would suggest) in the Vanderbilt area. From there, you would need to drive to downtown, but there are some restaurants and attractions you could walk to from the Loews. The bars nearby are mainly college bars and probably not to your liking. There are some good restaurants nearby.

You would need to drive to Opryland from either location. I think if your focus is wine and live music, I'd probably pick the Hermitage, although the Loews is a nice hotel and I'm partial to the Vandy area myself.

Unless you are especially partial to historic hotels, I would choose the Loews Vanderbilt Plaza. You will be closer to all the good restaurants and bars (not just college bars) in the Vanderbilt area, yet just a 5 minute cab ride from downtown attractions. There are some good restaurants downtown, but more around the Vandy area. I wouldn't bother getting the car to go downtown from there, just take a cab because parking downtown is a hassle.

This maybe a bit to late but if you have problems booking either you may want to consider the Union Station Hotel. It is a Wyndham Plaza property and a historic hotel. The building was actually a train station at one time and the rooms are extremely unique. Most have ceilings that are 20 ft in height. They are tastefully decorated and give gorgeous views of the 60 ft stain glass dome in the center of the hotel.

It is centrally located to music row, resturaunts, etc and the great thing about it is that you can park your car and use their free courtesy van to take you anywhere downtown. They also come and pick you up. The drivers know all the great places to eat and visit.

A hint on booking. You can go directly to the Wyndham site and book from there under their bargain rates section. We got a gorgeous room for $69 a night. We spent a wonderful long weekend in Nashville and had a ball and did it on the cheap.

the Loews is perfect. It's in a great location because it's next to all the bars and restaurants around Vanderbilt. Downtown is still quite accessible. Don't miss Off Broadway Shoe Outlet.
