Go just a bit outside the city to eat at The Loveless Cafe.

For a snack-- try Las Paletas(popsicles). They have normal flavors and even flavors like avacado. $2.50each and very good.

Loved the Grand Ole Opry show--book the backstage tour in advance.

You can get a Marriott property in downtown Nashville for less than $200/night,something near Opryland for $150//night or a hotel near the airport for around $100/night. For music you might enjoy the Bluebird Cafe or the Station Inn. Closer to your trip you may also want to check out nashvillescene.com for a list of music events. Have fun!

I'd only stay in the Opryland area if the hotel and the Opry are the main focus of your trip. Otherwise, with only one day, you'll spend more time driving than you want to. Downtown is generally most convenient for tourist stuff.

I second the Bluebird and Station Inn - Station Inn is a total dive bluegrass joint that's been there for years and, thanks to recent construction, is now in the middle of one of the yuppie-est parts of town.

There are tons of Nashville threads here, if you want to search them for ideas.
