Flemings Steakhouse-upscale and expensive-very good!
Also, is a Ruth's Chris Steakhouse I hear is fabulous.

While the Ruths Chris and the Mortons downtown are always good (as they should be)...try some of the unique places that are not a chain.

For steakhouses on the same level as Ruths Chris and Mortons, try these:
1) The Palm - The best steak place in Nashville...lots of celebs, etc
2) Stockyards

Other restaurants include: Antonios and Amerigos for Italian...and the Capitol Grill (it's close to your hotel) for a little of everything.

Those restaurants are "fine dining" (when you say fine restaurants I imagine overpriced and "snobbish")...here are some good choices that are just great restaurants...

The Big River Brewing Company downtown has some very interesting and off the beaten path dishes, but also has one of those in house brewing thngs going on

The New Orleans Manor is pricy seafood done buffet style, but with lots of freeshness and crab legs, oysters rock, and other goodies.

South Street Original Crab Shack & Authentic Dive Bar is an interesting place with great food.

Even though it's a chain, I really like Romanos Macaroni Grill.

Also it's out in the Burbs, but for a good taste of Tennessee BBQ that won't leave you dirty, try Calhouns.

I just had to comment on what a previous poster mentioned. The Palm is also a chain, as I'm sure you know. Amerigos is, as well. I'd suggest you try a restaurant that's unique to Nashville, as we have many. Cafe 123 and Tin Angel are both located in the downtown/West End area. They offer an eclectic variety of dishes and have good ambience. As for Italian, Cafe Nonna and Basante's are good bets. You can read about them on citysearch.com. Also, I've never been to Zola, but I hear it's fantastic. Enjoy your visit!

I live near nashville and Tin Angel is a favorite. Consistently excellent, especially for the price. My teenaged kids love it too. Zolas is great as well, but not quite the same atmosphere. The best high end food is Mad Platter. It looks unassuming but the 7 course meal (around $40) is unparalleled by anything I have had in New York, San Franciso, or LA.
