NASCAR - Dover Speedway

Plan on attending the Sept. race. We are looking for the best parking option where we can leave early (need to catch a flight).
The two DART run lots, you need to stay till the end of the race. Also any idea what time we need to leave Wilmington to avoid the inbound traffic to the race (race starts at 1 pm)? Thanks !

I have dealt with "race" traffic for many years. Are you flying in to Philly that day for the race? Most of us who live here, avoid going Dover way on race day. What is usually an hour and 1/2 ride to the beach (through Dover), can take as long as four to six hours at the height of race traffic. We know people who have sat absolutely still on the highway ( so long they could take out lawn chairs and sit on the road ).Honestly if I were you and you absolutely have to come that day, I'd plan on leaving Philly at 7 AM to be sure you don't miss the start. This race sells out hotels all the way to Wilmington and across the bridge into New Jersey and as far south as Pocomoke City, MD.
I worked in the tourism industry in DE for 10 years, and while I know for my buddies in Dover it's the "big event" I personally avoid it like wildfire, especially if you're trying to do it last minute.

Knowing every one has thier reasons, I will not question your thought process for trying to fly out the day of the race. To get on the road I would be prepared to bite the bullett and pay to park, and be prepared to walk 3/4 mile+ to the track. DO NOT park at the track. You want to stay on the north side of the track on US 13. I would say anywhare north of the Dover Mall will work fine. Traffic is only "nightmareish" at the track. Once you get 3-4 blocks away you should be OK. Just don't be south of the mall and figure on going north in a hurry.

Hi, we are going to the september race. We need a hotel north of Dover. We live in central New Jersey. Any ideas? Thanks so much

At this point, anything within a couple hour radius of Dover will be sold out for the race. Your best bet is to check on a map for towns that you want to be in a few hours north of Dover and check the Internet for anything that may be available ... if you're lucky enough to find anything just take it at this point.

Be sure to head out to the race very early to avoid the traffic nightmare. Years ago we used to go to this race regularly and stayed on Kent Island, about a 45-60 minute ride away (without traffic). We used to leave for the race by 6 am --- and still ran into lots of traffic!
