Nappa in July
We are going to Nappa in july for one week with two kids 15 and 9 and would like to do the following ; Yosimite,San Francisco,Redwood forest. Is this too much to do with Nappa as our home base? Also which airport SF, Oakland or Sacremento?

First of all, Yosemite will be REALLY crowded in July
In my opinion trying to drive there and back from Napa as a "day trip"would be difficult as you would have to leave by 3 AM and come back about midnight. ( 3 1/2 to 4 hr drive)
Doing San Francisco as "day trips" is easy as it is about a 1 1/2 hr drive BUT you must avoid commute hours..
Don't know what area you call "Redwoods" There is a grove near Santa Cruz which would be about 2 1/2 hrs. from Napa
You need to get a map and really fgure out the distances.
Good luck

Yosemite is too much, the rest are doable.nn
Flying into Sacto will be good. Take the 5 to the 505 south to Winters, eat at the buckhorn steakhouse. take the 128 west past the Lake Berryessa dam to the 121 to Napa. Scenic mountain route.
But Napa isn't all that scenic a locale. Gotta get out of the town to see the wine country. It'll be hot in July if the fog doesn't reach that far inland. But bring some sweaters, it'll be chilly on the coast.
Redwoods at Armstrong Woods on 116.

I agree with others that Yosemite is pushing it if you're based in Napa and have only a week; it's not a good "day trip." You can see wonderful redwoods at Armstrong Woods in Sonoma County, or of course, at Muir Woods in Marin, but I suspect Armstrong would be less crowded, and you could go to the coast from there (do a computer search for a map). You can drive to San Francisco from Napa and back in a day, but if I were you I'd check to see what kind of public tranportation was possible, particularly ferry rides, so you don't have to drive all the way into the city and deal with parking and reparking--do a computer search on San Francisco ferries (I'd do it now, but my computer might crash right in the middle and I'd lose this reply). Oakland is by far the easiest airport, IMHO, but then I've never flown to Sacramento.

Hello mbllevine, if you are staying in Napa and would be interested in taking the ferry to SF you could drive to Vallejo (a short drive) and take the ferry to SF from there.
The website for the Vallejo/SF ferry is www.baylinkferry.com.
There is a lot of parking across the street from where you catch the ferry in Vallejo. The ticket office is in the building to the right of the ferry dock.
The ferry ride is very nice and you would be able to see a view of the west and east coastlines of San Pablo Bay and SF Bay. And coming into SF is such a beautiful sight! The ride takes just 55 minutes.
Welcome to California.
