Naples, Sanibel, Captiva or Marco Island??

My husband, 2-year old daughter and I will be traveling to the Naples area for a week in March. We'd like to stay in a resort, but can't decide between something right in Naples -- or somthing nearby on Captiva, Sanibel or Marco Island. Any suggestions???
See the post in this forum..."Boycott Marco Island".

I don't think she was looking for a political discussion about eco-tourism, she wants some travel advice. Naples is very nice, but with a 2-year old, you really might like Sanibel Island. The gulf beaches are gentle and shelling and digging in the sand used to keep my kids busy all day. Considering that you'll have those gulf beaches in any of the locations, you may just want to pick based on the best deal you can find!

Spent a week in Captiva/Sanibel in October - thought it was wonderful - very nice and quiet beach - lots of things to do. Your daughter is sure to love the shells and pelicans and you and your husband will LOVE the incredible sunsets.

We love the Hilton on Marco island.
We also think the Hilton on Marco Island is great. It's right on the beach and very safe for children.

My fiance and I have a timeshare at the Casa Ybel in Sanibel. He has been vacationing there for over 20 years! It is a great resort right on the beach with a pool bar and hot tub for the grown ups and daily activites for the children. Many families vacation here and would be a great place to go with your family. Only 76 days until our next visit!

In February 2000 I stayed at Sanibel Sundial Resort. I drove to Captiva every day and spent the day at the South Seas Resort (which is from the same chain, so they give you a pass). The reason was twofold: 1st, the environment at the Captiva resort was GREAT (so is the resort itself, though expensive); 2nd, I could not stand the overwhelming stink of rotten shellfish at Sanibel beach. There was none of that in Captiva.

I have also stayed at Marco Island. This may help you decide: Marco Island beach (which is wide, nice and quiet) is lined with high-rise condos. Captiva and Sanibel, on the other hand, have low-rise buildings and much more nature.
