Naples - Breakfast dining
 

Staying at Laplaya resort over labor day weekend. We will have a car. Any suggestions for a hearty breakfast besides Laplaya? Other hotel suggestions for breakfast? Not really interested in IHOP, Denny's, Starbucks, etc.

Apologies, but I have to point out that there is no such thing as "breakfast dining". When you are dining you are having dinner.

When I travel I often like have breakfast at a diner - a very common place to dine.

There are several "First Watch" restaurants in the Naples area.
They are part of a chain but a major step above IHOP or Denny's.

Yes, there is a First Watch fairly close to LaPlaya, near the intersection of Immokalee Road and 41, in the Expo shopping center (sort of behind PF Changs).

Over by Pine Ridge Road and Airport Road is Skillets, and there is another one near the Wendy's on 41 near Park Shore. They are great with lots of healthy options as well.

I really love a little place in the Target shopping Center at Pine Ridge and Airport called Sunburst Cafe -- bright Mexican decor (but not Mexican food). Small and casual -- you order at the counter and they bring your food. Great full breakfasts and super baked goods.

I'm leaving in 5 minutes to go to Sunburst Cafe for lunch. Yum-Yum

But I'm bummed that Sunburst dropped their I-Dine membership, so I no longer rack up AA FF miles by eating there! Enjoy your lunch, poochie.

Tobycat - second the suggestions for Sunburst Cafe. We are in Naples for the winter and have found they have the best breakfasts.

Lucky for us we are only minutes away from Pine Ridge & Airport.

I second First Watch and Skillets.

Is it the Clock on 41 that gives you a choice between hash browns and home fries?

Yes, the Clock, but Perkins and other places do that too.
The Clock is a real bargain place and for good old basic breakfast stuff is really pretty good.
And I didn't mention this because it isn't very convenient to LaPlaya, but in Olde Naples the Cove Inn Coffee Shop is surprisingly a locals' long time favorite with really good breakfasts. They do eggs Napoli which is two eggs basted on top of a couple slices of muenster cheese that is really fantastic. Some order it on top of their great hashbrowns. You can just hear your arteries clog -- but so good. And people rave about their pancakes (I'm not a pancake eater, so I don't know).

I can't believe no one has mentioned Mel's Diner. We enjoyed this "diner" atmosphere and the food was also decent.

I am pretty sure there were two right in Naples. We stayed at LaPlaya last Nov and enjoyed this impromptu diner.

P.S. If nothing else, you can stop at Mel's for dessert.

I can tell you why I didn't mention Mel's Diner. The portions are gigantic. To me it's all about quantity and not quality. I had a Denver omelette. They call it that because it's the size of Denver, not because it tastes like a Denver omelette. Overcooked, dry, and tasteless -- but enough for three people to eat. My partner had a stack of the thickest heaviest pancakes he or I have ever seen. The were called blueberry pancakes because they were covered with what seemed like an entire can of canned blueberry pie filling. They could serve an average family. They sat like lead in his stomach. But if you like LOTS of food at cheap prices -- it's hard to beat. It is VERY popular. Just not my kind of place -- sorry, that's my opinion.

Now I'm confused. Are you saying huge portions of not good food make a "hearty" breakfast?

From the online dictionary:

Well, I guess it is abundant enough, but I think of hearty as being healthy and good too. One out of three isn't bad?

Since tobycat specifically said NOT interested in IHOP and Denny's, I assumed they weren't just looking for huge portions of mediocre food. Tobycat, correct me if I'm wrong.

What is the name of that restaurant that serves breakfast on Third Street almost across from Tommy Bahama? It has tables outside a little further inside a courtyard. I think its named after the owner (a lady). It also has a cute shop inside.

Jane's? (I don't remember the shop inside?) There's another Jane's along 41 at 3rd Avenue North.

Didn't know they had one on 41 but they also have one on Pine Ridge between Airport and Goodlette. At least they did last winter.

The food is quite good.
