Napali Sunset Cruise
While we are on Kauai next week my heart is set on taking the Napali Sunset Cruise, but my travel companion is susceptible to seasickness and is apprehensive about taking the cruise. I have two questions: Are rough seas likely? Will I be missing a very special experience if I don't take the cruise?

Ugh! Depends on the wind and weather. Several years ago, we did a Napali snorkel trip in the morning. Huge swells were coming in from the north. When the boat went between swells, you couldn't even see the horizon. I had taken Bonine and was fine. My mom hadn't and got super seasick. The boat turned back to port.
My advice is to take your Bonine and if the wind hasn't been coming up in the afternoons, then do it! It is so beautiful. |
I've taken a zodiac type boat tour on the northshore of Kauai without dramamine and I survived. I'm not sure how large the boat is that you are taking, or how big the swells will be. I guess it depends. I've often taken dramamine for boat cruises and do fine. I would just take one/half tablet because the dramamine will make you sleepy.

I've only done the morning snorkel tours when the seas are calmer, book early in case they have to cancel.

We've done both. One in the morning was heavenly. The one in the afternoon, we were warned that it was going to be choppy, and the tour boat offered ahead of time to return money to anyone who didn't want to go. I don't think anyone took them up on the offer, but everyone should have. Just about everyone on the boat was sick. If we go again, it will be in the morning.

Thanks for this information. I don't want to rope my traveling companion into an experience that is so likely to cause discomfort.
