Napa wineries and Olive Oil
 

We are planning a California vacation in July 09 and one of our stops will be Napa. We will be 2 adults, 14 & 12 yr old and will have 3 full days not including arrival and departure dates

We would like to tour one or two wineries and were also wondering if there are any good olive groves / olive oil factories, etc in the area.

We want to see some lesser known vineyards/ wineries then the usual Domain Chandon, Mondavi, Far Niente, etc. We would love to hear about some of your favorites

We would also welcome any other suggestions on anything to do with the Napa Valley area that you found fun and suprising

We buy a few gallons each trip.
Also an Italian deli.

They have a picnic table there too.
Nothing special but nice. Almost in a residential neighborhood down the street from Tre Vigne.

Do you guys like to ride bikes?
July may be a bit warm but still bike rideable.

Criss cross thru the vineyards on the "Cross" roads.

We've started in Yountville and cris crossed over to the Silverado Trail to Oakville Crossing and up to St Helena and then back.

Stop at Taylor's Refresher, get refreshed and ride back.

Why not check out Preston winery on West Dry Creek in Healdsburg. Great wine, small olive oil production, picnic area and home made bread. Doesn't get better than that. But it means you have to leave Napa and discover Sonoma County and Healdsburg.

A great old Italian deli with its own olive oil is in located in St. Helena, just down the street from Terra restaurant. The deli has its own brand of olive oil.

You might want to consider Round Pond www.roundpond.com. They have lovely olive oils--some flavored with citrus. We did the luncheon--dessert was vanilla ice cream with olive oil drizzled over--delish!

Visit CIA (Culinary Institute of America) free cooking class and student chef prepared meals at reasonable prices. Nice little store.
Visit COPIA--dedicated to Julia childs, lots of cooking clases and sometime wine pairing lunch, great little store, art exhibits and great agricultural grounds.

LOng Meadows Ranch Rutherford makes a great olive oil Prato Lungo.

McEvoy is the best known olive oil and both above offer tours.

Visit winery Folie A Deux..our "adopted" winery. We love name and we like Menage a Tois white..they have a red too. diffrent winery won lots of awards.. not a "big wine house"...
