Napa Valley/San Francisco--where to stay
 

My husband and I are thinking of going to SF and Napa Valley for 5 days. I have no idea where to stay. We also would like to tour the wine country and possibly stay at a B&B on the way. Where do we stay? Whats the best way to do this trip? How long does it take? <BR>Thanks

Napa (city) is about one hour from San Francisco via Golden Gate Bridge if you avoid the commute hours!! <BR>Stay in Napa or Yountville the first night and then work your way up the valley.Doing the winery thing as you go <BR>IMO your best bet would be to check out the web site==www.napavalley.com-lots of info you will need.Good Luck <BR> <BR>

Hi- <BR>Don't know how much you want to pay, but there's a group of small hotels/B&B's, called the Four Sisters Inn (each has their own individual names) that are really wonderful. There's one or two in SF and a couple scattered in Napa too; check them out at www.foursisters.com. <BR>My husband and I stayed at the Maison Fleurie in Yountville and the White Swan Inn in SF two years ago and loved both of them. They offered breakfast and evening appetizers at both establishments and their food was top notch. Good luck whatever you do!

Do a search on Fodor United States for Napa Valley and you will get answers that other posters have submitted. Some will be outdated but still helpful.

I know you guys will have a great trip! I have stayed at the Napa Marriott, which was acceptable, but I don't recommend it. The Embassy Suites in Napa, on the other hand, was great. Each room has a living room and bedroom, bathrobes, and the service is excellent. I would ACTUALLY recommend, however, staying in Yountville or the city of Sonoma. Sonoma is much cuter than Napa and you'll be able to walk to dinner or around the square.

The town of Healdburg in Sonoma Co. is also great. There's a new hotel opening on the square--can't recall the name--just read about it in the paper. My best advice is don't try to do too much! If you mean 5 days total for SF and the wine country, that's really not enough time to do too much. Plan 3 days in SF and then 2 in Napa or Sonoma but not both. Lots of wonderful B&Bs in the wine country, if that's what you like. You'll get tons of info at the SF Visitor's Bureau--do a search for them. Also sfgate.com for info from the Cronicle. Karenbrown.com has a good itinerary with hotel suggestions for the wine country. Enjoy!
