Napa Valley...info??

Hello, I'm flying from New York. I want to go to Napa Valley. Which airport is the closest? I'm so confused...There's Santa Rosa airport, Oakland or San Fran...help?? ; )
Wine train info? any tours I should hit? Suggestions greatly appreciated. I am looking to stay 5 days.

Is it cheaper to fly into SFO or OAK? Oakland is less of a hassle that's for sure.

Before we can suggest wineries or tours are you partial to certian wines?

The Wine train is dinner on a train. It does not go to wineries though there is a lunch version that visits either Domaine Chandon or Grgich Hills for an extra charge.

I now prefer the drive to Napa/Sonoma from the Sacramento airport as opposed to coming from the Bay Area. It's a few miles further but less traffic so I usually get there quicker.

Coming from New York, though, I would think you'd be able to get more non-stop flights into SFO. I know Jet Blue flies from JFK into Sacramento and Oakland but might have a couple of non-stops.

I think I would look at these airports and find the flight that is the cheapest and the most direct. Also you didn't mention if you are going to spend anytime in SF. If so, obviously you wouldn't fly into Sacramento. Don't know anything about Santa Rosa airport so again I would consider cost and schedule.

Virgin America goes from JFK to SFO and is the favorite of several of my friends for comfort and service.

Jet Blue flies from JFK to SFO, OAK, and SMF. Any of these airports will be fine. As others have said, just find the fare you like and the most convenient flight times.

If you've got 5 days, you will have plenty of time to tour the Wine Country. You could spend a couple of nights in Napa and maybe three nights in Healdsburg. Sonoma County is more spread out and you might want to take a day and see some of the coastline.

There's plenty of information here if you do a search for recommendations on wineries and restaurants. You might also want to buy the Fodor's guide to the Wine Country.

Sacramento is the easiest airport to use, and the drive from there to Napa is about 1 hr. 10 min. However, if you can get a nonstop to Oakland and you like the price, take that one. If you don't want to rent a car at the airport, you can take the Evans Airporter to Napa. Evans also has a shuttle to SFO (San Francisco Airport). I am not familiar with Santa Rosa Airport. The other 3 are International airports and usually have good flight prices.

I hope you are planning on getting a car. You really will need one to get around. Since you will be there 5 days you can spend time in both Napa and Sonoma. I prefer Sonoma but in the Napa area, St. Helena is a very cute town.

If you can get a reasonable price to Santa Rosa by all means do it. Other than that fly into Sacramento (SMF). Much smaller than Oakland or SFO and a lot less hassle getting to the Napa area.

For a 5-day stay you might want to also visit Sonoma county wineries.

There already exists a multitude of info here on both Napa and Sonoma County. You really need to put "Napa" in the search box - you will pull up more than 1,000 threads - should get you started on defining your interests, and thus your questions more specific,
and our answers better directed.

I have stayed at the El Bonita also and thought it was good for the price. I think St. Helena is the cutest town and enjoyed that whole area.
