Napa Valley for New Years

My fiancee and I are thinking of heading to Napa Valley for New Years. Does anyone have any suggestions or recommendations? Would it make more sense to plan a trip around SF instead? Your input is most appreciated.

You may want to try some of the big vineyards or hotels in the area.

IMHO, I'd do SF for New Years and then take a few days up in Sonoma/Napa Valleys.

we spent new year's eve in yountville one year. i *think* the town stayed lit til 12, but am not sure- that's my way of saying it was very very quiet up there in the vines.
things may have changed.
why not check with the napa chamber of commerce- the town of napa has come a long way and i would not be surprised if they had something going on at the opera house (theater) or just on the main streets or something.
sf does a traditional fireworks show down at the ferry -- it might be a fun place.
if you are young (20's) and want a goofy time, the hyatt embarcadero has a gigantic party every year and you can watch the fireworks from there...of course, it usually rains.

Depends on what you are looking for. SF will be more lively however one of my favorite NY's was staying at Indian Springs Spa in Calistoga. We had a great dinner then came home to a moonlit swim in the heated outdoor pool. Massages and spa treatments the next day rounded out the experience.

Yes, the Indian Springs Resort is very nice. We were there in the Spring. You can read my story on their website at www.indianspringscalistoga.com

I think a stay there in the cooler weather would be heavenly. The heated Olympic pool is very soothing and relaxing. The bungalows there are also very nice. Have fun!! ***kim*** :)

Last year we went to Cole's Chop House and the dance/celebration afterwards at the Opera House next store. If money were no object the Napa Valley Wine train does a clebration also. we decided to go to Martini House this year for a nice dinner and watch the ball drop at home. I agree with the previous poster who said it depends on what you want. If you are OK with a quiet NY then Napa is great. We did go to the city one year and saw a acrobatic show and had a dinner. There are packages in the city that are fun for NY at many of the major hotels. In any case..have a safe and appy New Years!
