Napa / Sonoma Honeymoon Help
 

Would really appreciate some assistance.

My soon to be wife and I are going to include wine country as part of our honeymoon plans. We're planning on 2 nights in either Sonoma or Napa in early October 2003.

Our first concern is, obviously, lodging. Neither one of us really want to stay in a B&B and would rather do something with Spa accomodations. Since it's our honeymoon, price isn't really an issue although I'd rather not spend more then $250 - $300 / night. Am I asking too much?

Any suggestions would really help us kick start our planning.

Also wanted to quickly add that I've combed the message boards here fairly well and have seen a number of B&Bs recommended, although few resorts / hotels / inns.

I loved the Lodge at Sonoma. It is a Rennaissance hotel just south of the main square. Didnt do the spa but others raved about it. I got a upgraded to a suite in the main building but most get what they call cabins. There a set of 2 story buildings surrounding the pool. If you call ahead and tell them it is your honeymoon, I am sure they will do something. I got a rate of about 200. Dinner I recomend Girl and the Fig. Whinery tours Ravenswood (actually do barrel tastings).

In Napa you might also look at Villagio in Yountville or Indian Springs in Calistoga. In Sonoma(county that is) you might consider the Healdsburg Hotel which has spa facilities and is right on the plaza. While it does not have spa facilities, I also suggest you look at DuChamp in Healdsburg.

That will be a busy time of year, and if it were my honeymoon , I'd rather spend it in the quieter area of the Sonoma Valley than Napa. A second to the Healdsburg Hotel- it is a great town! They also have a splendid restaurant- the Dry Creek Kitchen.

Haven't stayed at the Healdsburg Hotel myself, but my (very wealthy) boss spent two nights there in late May 2003. He's had a lot of experience with upscale, expensive hotels all over the world, and he thought the Healdsburg was over-priced. His party had reserved both a double room (very small) and a suite (larger room but oddly configured bathroom).
