Looking for good restaurants in Napa or Sonoma Valleys that don't require a reservation 6 months ahead and don't cost a fortune. Upscale but reasonable preferred

There is a great restaurant in St. Helena called the Martini House. Not too outrageous for the area but still quaint. (In an old house) check it out!

thanks gmom....we have been there and loved it. Taking some friends in the fall and was hoping to find another one or two to try.

the old Christian's Brothers' winery is called Greystone...very elegant inside, also the site of the Culinary Institute.

Hi-I ate at Mustards in St. Helena in February. I thought it was great -- nice ambience; lively bar; casual yet upscale. Food was great - interesting choices. It's a pretty spot, too.

we ate at the Rutherford Grill in Rutherford- great ribs! I dont think they take reservations- there was a 70 min wait when we arrived but ended up being able to eat at the bar -
I thought the food was good - the place was packed

You can access opentable.com and see the links to various rest-os in the area. Easy to book a reservation from this site. I've used it all over the US.

Brix was great food but they do require a reservation (however, not months). We walked in and had a great table for lunch. For dinner, how about Tres Vigne? Love their food there and the terrace area is quite nice. I don't think you need months in advance for a reservation although one sooner rather than later is always better. ;-)

In Healdsburg we ran into a wonderful small restaurant right across form the city square: Restaurant Charcuterie - tons of little pigs and big pigs - but the best dish we had for lunch was a vegetable burger with eggplant, etc.

Still in Healdsburg, Cyrus is very, very good and pricey as R5 has pointed out.

At Manzanita, you should try something from their wonderful oven and cooked over manzanita wood.

In Napa Valley, our favorite restaurant is Bistro Jeanty (pricey, but not so pricey, given the terrific quality of their food). Given a choice, we would prefer Bistro Jeanty over Cyrus in Healdsburg.

There are just so many wonderful restaurants, you can't go wrong with any of the choices that others have pointed out here.

I second Tra Vigne; this used to be chef Michael Chiarello's (Food TV, etc) place and the food is terrific and the atmooshphere is friendly and relaxed.
