My wife and I will be staying in Napa in two weeks for just 2 nights. This is our first time there. We're staying in a B&B within walking distance to the historic district.

Does anyone have any recommendations for dining in Napa or Yountville or that area? We prefer to keep the bill reasonable (below $100 for the 2 of us).

Unfortunately, our favorite downtown Napa restaurant, Pillar has closed but the chef is now working at Don Giovanni another favorite but not within walking distance of your B&B.

One of the hottest new restaurants in Napa is Ubuntu (no relation to Linux) and if you like vegetarian fare, that would be an excellent choice.

I hear Redd is great

Redd is great, but harder to keep the bill under $100. Many great restaurants in the area, but I included those where you could have a superb meal without having to worry about the cost, including some decent wine.

If anyone wants more details on those listed, just let me know.

REDD is very good! You may also want to consider Ad Hoc in Yountville, a Thomas Keller venue. The menu is the same for everyone, call ahead to see if they are serving something you like. You receive 3 courses for $45/pp. Very friendly ambiance,we had a great time here last March when we were in Yountville, staying at the Villagio Inn & Spa right across the street from both REDD and Ad Hoc.

If you want to drive to St. Helena, Cindy's Backstreet Kitchen has excellent food served in a homey-casual ambiance.

We'll be in Kenwood for the month of March so we'd love more details and if you have any ideas for Sonoma valley, that would be great.

Quick reply for now, but a very inexpensive place we love in the town of Sonoma is right on the Plaza. It is called Sunflower Cafe. It is next door to El Dorado Hotel and looks like nothing - very unimpressive. You order at the counter and then step into the delightfully overgrown, rustic courtyard out back to select a table. Old World Sonoma in its natural state. Great salads (I like their chicken salad) and sandwiches, etc. Probably just a lunch place.

Mustard seed is my cousin's favorite restaurant.
