Napa - A little help please

Going to Napa end of Oct. for two nights with daughter, son-in-law, possibly son and a friend (all adults). I wanted to rent a house but nothing available for two nights or at least, none of the owners on VRBO responded to my request. We must be in Napa or really close so Healdsburg, Sonoma are out. Trying to keep expenses down (since there are so many tag alongs) so if you have any suggestions for places to stay, I would appreciate hearing from you.

A while ago someone recommended the Christian Brothers Conference Center and they have rooms available at a reasonable rate. Anyone stay there?

Ronda, home rentals are illegal in Napa. There's a very large thread about it written by the owners of Old World Inn on tripadvisor.com Go over there and use the search engine...I'm too lazy to vist tiny url. You will have better luck in Sonoma Valley which has different laws.

You can EASILY find a home rental in the Healdsburg area. Check out www.sonomacountyvacations.com.

well, she said she needs to be really close to Napa....

Do you mean the town of Napa or the valley? Any reason (wedding, meeting, etc?)

Check:
Calistoga
Yountville
St Helena

We want to be in Napa because our time is very limited. We will attend a golf tournament probably on Saturday so we only have Friday to see the sites and wine taste. You could say my son's business is "golf associated" (corporate pilot).

I have checked rentals in Yountville and St. Helena and they seem to be a little more expensive or require a week. The hotels are also filling up and seems like the expensive rooms are left.

The conference center looks nice on the internet and it is right next to Hess which is one of my DH's desired wine tasting stops.

Thank you anyway.

The Christian Bros Conference center is kind of out of the way up in the hills west of Napa. It could take 15 minutes or so to get down from there to the valley floor.

If you need cheap lodging, you can find very reasonable rooms in Vallejo which is just 20 minutes south of Napa.

What golf tournament are you talking about at the end of October in Napa?

TrvlMaven Sep 8th, 2007 06:17 AM

If you're talking about the Seniors tour--isn't that in Sonoma? Try the Jack London Inn(motel) in Glen Ellen. If the tournament is truly in Napa, try there are several new hotels (Garden Inn, Summerfield Suites) that consider themselves in Napa, but are just north of American Canyon. Should be reasonable, but still near enough.

Oh gees, thanks TrvlMaven. It is the Champions Tour but they are coming into Napa airport. Was told "it" was in Napa. Guess I better start looking in Sonoma.

LLindaC Sep 8th, 2007 08:00 AM

Good. You'll like Sonoma better. But if you get a chance to visit Hess, do so. It's a fabulous place.

TrvlMaven Sep 8th, 2007 08:19 AM

Ah--I thought so! Will you have a car? Are you responsible for transporting the golfers? Places to consider would be the Best Western Sonoma Valley Inn, or El Pueblo.

LLindaC Sep 8th, 2007 03:57 PM

I didn't suggest Best Western because they are already showing "no availability".

jtrandolph Sep 8th, 2007 04:17 PM

I am confused. Which golf course is being used? If it is in Sonoma then VRBO should work and you could get a rental anywhere from Sonoma to Glen Ellen.

TrvlMaven Sep 8th, 2007 04:20 PM

It's at the Sonoma Golf Course--the one on Arnold Drive. So, if places are already booked, American Canyon or Petaluma may be an option (provided you have a car).

Ronda Sep 9th, 2007 08:19 AM

Yes, we will have a car. Yes, lots of places are already booked or the expensive rooms are left. Our family is watching and not playing so no golf clubs.

I'm keeping the reservation at Christian Borthers until I can figure out something else. It looked like a nice place and we have vineyard view rooms. Will try the rentals again. Thanks for your help.

TrvlMaven Sep 9th, 2007 10:30 AM

Try Calistoga (you can get there over the grade) or Santa Rosa, too.

If you don't stay close to the area you want to hang out in - be prepared for outrageous traffic conditions...and allow lots of time to get around.

Ronda Sep 11th, 2007 12:24 PM

Update: We have rented a house in Sonoma for the two nights. I was able to find one that sleeps 8 that is close to the golf course. Now my poor husband just has to get used to the idea that a house rental even though it costs more than a hotel room, is a better deal!

Very good Ronda! It's a gorgeous drive to Hess from there and absolutely worth it. Also try to see Gloria Ferrar for sparklers. Imagery is really fun and Benziger is a great place to take a tour.
