Nantucket restaurants 2012
 

It's time to start thinking about our annual visit to Nantucket! Wondering what the word is this season regarding restaurants old and new. Ackislander, are you out there? :-) Would love to hear what people are experiencing and hearing as the season begins. TIA!

Well, there are a lot of new ones, including, Cru, the one for which the PR release above was written, even though she doesn't mention the name :-).

It sadly replaces the Ropewalk, which had gone downhill but was in the same fabulous location at a much more affordable price point than the new place is likely to be.

The new restaurant at the Jared Coffin House, much ballyhooed last year, has been reopened under the name "Essex", which might lead one to expect, wrongly I assume, a fried clam joint. How can one place after another fail in what has got to be one of the greatest locations on the island?

Unfortunately, many of the new restaurants in town were not licensed until late in the game and in some(most) cases are not yet open.

Restaurant Week is the week after next, and I will be reporting back after that.

The best values on island continue to be breakfast (especially the blueberry pancakes) and the dinner specials at Crosswinds at the airport, provided you don't need atmosphere or expect any more than American diner food. But it is good diner food.

The best vaalue for lunch is Stubby's on the strip or Walters, if you like deli sandwiches. Others may be cheaper (not much) but the quality is excellent, and you can take the food down to the water and nibble away while the waves roll in.

Thanks Ackislander, i was hoping i would hear from you! can't wait to read your report after next week. Funny about Essex (and Brick). the buildout was gorgeous, it is a new owner? why not just revamp what they originally put in? Looking forward to your report!

Ackislander- how was restaurant week? waiting for your report w baited breath!

We spent all day yesterday coming off island and going to doctors. Going to the dentist this morning, but I will get started this afternoon.

We went to the Galley, Straight Wharf and Ventuno, taking a day off in between each to give the disgestion a chance.

All good, none perfect, but some interesting issues and redemptions.

The link in Isuttel's post above is really excellent, and I have started following the blogger. Now if I can figure out who she is . . . . :-)
