Nantucket in Oct.

Going to Nantuket (for the first time) in early Oct. - any suggestions for places to eat, to go, and things to do? Thanks!

We always eat one night at the Brotherhood of Thieves for burgers, clam chowder, they usually have some sort of musical entertainment.
For fancier dinners, we love Arno's on Main St. It's smoke free throughout, and the food is delicious. You can rent bikes and pedal to Siaconsett, it's a very pretty village. Check both bike rental shops that are side by side near the large ferry, we got a better deal at one, even though they are right next to each other. And if you walk from the bike shops towards the harbor, on the same street, on the same side as the bike shops is a great sandwich shop, it might be called Harry's. I think they have homemade bread, the sandwiches are great. Have fun and bring a sweatshirt.

Cindy,

What great suggestions - I've printed them out and placed them in the guidebook I'm taking with me. Thank you so much!
Claire

For future travelers, Brotherhood of Thieves is great. We also like the Tap Room.

You've got to go to Black Eyed Susan's for breakfast. The Atlantic Grill is great for lunch or dinner. Our favorite thing to do is to rent bikes and ride to Madaket. We usually stop at Something Natural along the way, and then picnic at the beach. Something Natural has great sandwiches and cookies. Have fun. The fall is a nice time to go to Nantucket. It's much less crowded.

My husband and I travel to Nantucket at least once each summer, we LOVE it. The island has a plethora of wonderful restaurants. Our favorite restaurants, we return to each year, are

Breakfast:
Arnos
Fog Island Cafe

Fancy Dinners:
The Boarding House
Company of the Cauldron (very romantic) The Langedoc
The Chanticleer(Sconset)

Picnics:
Something Natural(Do NOT miss this place)

The absolute best Clam Chowder in the WORLD can be found on Straight Wharf across from the A&P and next to the Straight Wharf restaurant. I cannot recall the name of the place, but it is a fresh fish store that is tucked into a little corner.---I repeat the BEST Clam Chowder ever!!!!

EVERY single night you MUST go to the Juice Bar. The Juice bar is a pastry/dessert place that has the BEST ice cream in the world...no joke. Right now my mouth is watering just thinking about their freshly made Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough Ice Cream.

--The best thing to do in Nantucket is simply rejuvenate!
--Rent a bike. Nantucket has bike paths set up all over the island. You can really bike anywhere.
--Sunset drinks at the WestEnder in Madaket.
--Shopping!!!! Nantucket's Main Street has a lot of great shops.

Have fun.

To find out more about Nantucket visit http://www.nantucket.com

If you're interested in serious fine dining, peruse the web and the tour guides and book now. Otherwise, just pick up all the free literature and newspapers at the airport/ferry terminal. Chock full of recommendations and suggestions.
