lawngirl,
I can't comment on the places that you listed. We have stayed at the Corner House and the Chestnut House. Both are very old, quaint and cozy with good central locations. The Chestnut is maybe a block or two closer to the action. The Corner House has a continental breakfast and delightful afternoon tea. The Chestnut doesn't serve food but gives you vouchers for full breakfast at 2 or three places including the Jared Coffin House which is most enjoyable. I do agree that staying in town is a better choice, especially since you probably won't have a car and don't really need one.

You can bike all over the island and there are miles of bike trails. Also there is a shuttle bus that covers most places.

A couple good eating spots are the Woodbox and Ship's Inn. There are others, the Chanticler is great, but expensive.

Wherever you stay, you will have a great time.

lawngirl,

Are you flying or taking one of the ferries?

We will be taking one of the ferries and leaving our car at the dock...do you know if there's a parking fee or if it's safe to leave your car at the dock?

We loved the Union Street Inn. It is only one block off of the Main Street, so very convenient. The rooms are beautiful and they really make the guests feel welcome. I am not sure what time of year you are going, but there is a cute little patio, where they serve a great full breakfast, included in the rate. You can also pick up a bottle of wine on Main Street and sit out there for cocktail hour. I can't compare to your other options, but I would return in a heartbeat.
