Any suggestions for a long August weekend in Nantucket?

Check the NYTimes web site (www.nytimes.com)--they just put up an article on Nantucket.

Not a whole lot to do on Nantucket! Bring the checkbook!LOL good one!
Marthas vineyard has a tad more to do there..

Nantucket is our favorite place. We're going next week. There are great beaches and restaurants. It can be expensive, but you don't have to eat and stay at the expensive places. There are biking trails all over the island. It's a beautiful place.

If you can wait til after Labor Day weekend the place is much more sane & the weather is perfect.

We just spent a week in July. No kidding, the prices were eye-popping at times. They don't want you to bring your car but then you are at th emercy of taxi's (at night). Fourty dollars with tip rountrip to sconset and other out areas was not uncommon. The bus during the day was great. We weny high end and I have to say it was worth it. Although, the room at the Jared Coffin house was very run down. Moly cushions on the patio/porch of our room, stained carpets, torn lampshade and an old, rusty, dusty fan in our room from the 50's. All that for almost 400.00 per night with tax. Dont know if we would stay there again. The beaches were wonderful, the town was fantastic and we just about covered all of the best places to dine. We are planning to try the island in Oct. when the prices arre lower. We went to the winery/brewery there. Not too much to see, but the wines are very nice. Email me if you have any ques.

My favorite place too, that's why it's so pricey, if you won't pay, someone else will. Been going for 17 straight summers. We always rent a house, more economical than a hotel.

Can't believe the person who thought there was nothing to do on ACK. What do they want, Disney? You could probably explore a different beach everyday for a month, bike, rent a boat, shop, swim, bogie board, loads of excellent restaurants, walk the beautiful streets, head out to 'Sconset, do a beach picnic, go clamming, surfcast at Eel point, etc.

Try nantucket.net for lodging info. You can find some nice inns and B&B's for under $200, and most include breakfast. Try Point Breeze, Cliff Lodge, Century House, Carlisle house, House of Seven Gables, Centre Street Inn, Brant Point inn. The White Elephant is nice, but not worth $500/night IMO.

Tracey: If you're serious, here, get yourself a copy of "Cape Cod, An Explorer's Guide", find the Nantucket Visitors website and pay the $5.95 or whatever S&H to have it sent to you (both are chock full of information, not to mention mucho savings of bucks tips and recommendations).

Though, you may be serious short of planning time here.

Those "in the know" simply do not head for Nantucket without reservations for accomodations, or dinner either.
