Nanniboujou lodge, Grand Marais MN

Has anybody stayed there?
Read one concerning review about hymns being piped into the dining room , which is unappealing, though my wife's memory of a long ago visit has made us interested in a stay.

I have always wanted to stay there! The photos of the place look like a fairy tale come to life. I'm looking forward to some first hand descriptions.

(I'm not into hymns, either, but I could live with it as part of the peculiar atmosphere of the place.)

We stayed a few days at the Naniboujou Lodge in 2014 and breakfasted each morning in the magnificent dining room. I don't recall any piped-in music, hymns or other.

We had a fireplace room, with desk and chair IIRC. The very large room next to the dining room looked out to the lake and had plenty of tables and seating for cards, puzzles, and other games. Adirondack chairs were outside closer to the water's edge. (Take insect repellent!) We drove to town for dinner at the Angry Trout Cafe. Try the walleye.

I grew up near Naniboujou Lodge and even tho I live in CA now we always go back to MN (several times a year) and always eat at Naniboujou. They have excellent food and the dining room is amazing. I have never heard hymns piped into the dining room and believe me I have eaten there many times. The only hymn type things I have ever heard there is at their Christmas Caroling Dinner in late December and it is all the old familiar Christmas carols sung by a group. I must admit I have never stayed there as I grew up there and have a family home to stay in while there. The location is beautiful and it is about 15-18 miles from the town of Grand Marais which has stores, art galleries, restaurants and hotels. The Angry Trout Restaurant in Grand Marais has excellent fish and you will be talking about the small napkins for a long time!! Everyone does. The Crooked Spoon in GM also has excellent food.
