Name change on an Airline ticket
 

I have a situation with a domestic flight, and wonder what is the best way to handle it. I am travelling with my son on Thursday and my wife is travelling with my other son the following day. It now appears that my son who I am travelling with, has a concert he was invited to play in, and wants to leave the next day. Can I just take my other son on that ticket? Do I need to inform the airline. It seems like such a simple request but I think it can get very complicated. They are also on different airlines as well. What are your thoughts?

I don't think you can change the name on a ticket. You should buy a new ticket and inform the AL you are not going to use the one with the wrong name. You have a year to change it and use it for a $100.00 change fee.

How old are they? I thought I read that under 17y/o requires no identification.If thats the case, only the Shadow knows...and he wont tell....

"Show a valid government-issued photo I.D. if you are over 18 years of age at the ticket counter, at the security checkpoint, and as you board the plane."

Touble is, if they are close to that age or look older, you will have to prove they are not over 18! But for that, maybe just a birth certificate, not a photo id??

It may seem simple because this is what you want to do, but you cannot change the name on an airline ticket. That's non-negotiable.

I'd also caution you against trying to pull a fast one on the airline. While you might get away with it, you might also be denied boarding and forced to buy a separate, very expensive ticket (or not be able to fly at all).

Not to mention that this is against the law.

While you may be able to do because kids under a certain age don't have to show id...it is illegal.

The screeners may also ask your child his/her name. Are you going to tell him/her to lie?

You cannot change the name on the ticket either.

Thanks for all your replys. That's why you are all the best. I do not want to pull a fast one just one that is very easy to do. I am only doing it in one direction. They are both under the age of 18. I know what a hassle changing the name can be because when I had a trip planned and saw that the ticket name for my son was Marry and his name is Larry it almost made us miss the flight at the time of departure. I thought I had it corrected 5 days before we were supposed to leave and was assured by the ticketing agent it was corrected. It took almost 1 hour to have them verify that they spelled the name wrong. I do not want to do this illegally.

To the best of my knowledge you can't do it. Call the airline and see what is involved to get the ticket changed.

My 16 year old daughter is asked all the time for her name by both gate check-in people and TSA - so you would have to get your kids to lie as well as you lying.
