N Michigan/Wisconsin 9 day road trip/ need assistance
We will be leaving Ludington Mi on August 27 and arriving in Chicago on September 6. This will give us 9 days to travel to the UP and down Eastern Wisconsin. We like to stay a couple days in each location. I thought of something like Petoskey, The locks and then I am not sure. We like very light hiking and anything cultural or historic that is interesting. We are pretty open to anything. I would appreciate suggestion for places to stay/eat/or visit. I am not certain or distances or anything else.

Bayfield, WI on Lake Superior is quite interesting with Madeline Island right offshore, you can take your car on the ferry to the island. It's remote and beautiful.
I agree that Door County is a great place to visit. You can hike or rent bikes in Penninsula State Park in Fish Creek for a great day in the woods. Egg Harbor, Fish Creek, Ephriam, and Sister Bay are all nice resort towns with many shoips, restaurants, and activities.

To add to TPAYT response - Northern Wisconsin around Bayfield is very historic -- actually on Madeline Island their is a great museum - La Pointe on the island was the first fur trading post in North America in the new west - Goes back to the early 1600's - then their are the Apostle Islands which are gorgeous -- and you can take a boat ride and see many of the islands - their is only one island that is really inhabitated - Madeline Island - the Town Park and Big Bay State Park are beautiful -- does require some hiking -- the beaches and bluffs are awesome. Then after that you might consider going back to Ashland and then heading east on Highway 2 to Northern Michigan.
I know you said you didnot want to do a lot of hiking -- but their some great state parks up in the area -- Copper Falls has some great waterfalls.
Have a great trip.

You are overlapping the Labor Day weekend. Labor Day morning is the one day of the year that people are permitted to walk over the five mile long suspension bridge and anywhere from 40-80,000 people do.
If you are wanting to stay anywhere close to the Mackinac Bridge on that Friday or Saturday, in Petoskey for example, you should already have your reservation and if you do not, you should make one immediately.
