N GA mountains - road trip from atlanta

we need to get away for christmas, the week of th 22 - 27 th or so. We are trying to stay on a budget and spend no more than 2,000. We want to see nature and beauty but also be close to fun stuff like cultural facilities, restaurants, etc. We are in our late twenties.

We love the North Georgia Mountains to vacation in so much that we bought retirement property there. A great place to stay is Blue Ridge. The nicest places to stay in that area are the cabins. They are very, very nice. Two websites in the order of preference are: Black Bear Cabins--www.blackbearcabinrentals.com and The Last Resort--www.thelastresort.com <BR>A wonderful restaurant is the Toccoa River House. I think you would have a great time in this area.

I like to go to Hiawassee, Georgia. it is about 2 hours from downtown. You go noth on 985. The scenery is really pretty on the lake ( Chatuge ) with the Mtns in the background. There is a nice resort there I believe it is called the Fieldstone Inn, it is a little expensive but the nicest in North GA.

Dahlonega is about an hour's drive north of Atlanta. It's a neat little town to visit.
