Mystic in June/flies

Keep reading about black flies in New England; would we encounter them in Mystic in late June?

I've lived in New England for 57 years and have only encountered black flies once, when I briefly lived in the western suburbs of Boston. They are more of an inland/northern/woodsy creature. At the southern seacoast, I would think the risk is slim.

I have been to Mystic twice, both times in late June and have yet to see a black fly.

I grew up in the Berkshires and haven't a clue as to what black flies are! The first I heard of them was on this board.

No

Thanks. Perhaps the black fly stories on this board are exagerated? From reading this forum, I was getting the feeling that we would be eaten alive by flies. Your answers help.

You may see them in the northern woods/lakes in Maine. Definitely not Mystic.

Trust me....the stories are not exaggerated. At least not mine. Black flies are horrid. But you will be safe in Mystic :)
