Were planning a weekend getaway to mystic.There seems to be alot of history and attractions there such as the mystic seaport.Anyone ever been there? I also narrowed it down to a days inn or comfort inn since we are traveling with a family. Any suggestions which is better? THANKS

I live in CT (that cold miserable place) and love Mystic. In that area, there is the Aquarium - which is fun, Mystic Seaport - interesting, town of Mystic - fun to walk around. I think it would be a nice getaway. As far as the hotels - I don't know there. I've never stayed at either one - but I think they are both quite convenient. Have a great time - hopefully when it's warmer!!!!

Stayed at the Mystic Hilton last summer and loved it. Directly across the road from the Aquarium and Mystic Village (an early American shopping village with some pretty decent restaurants.) We spent 4 days and really enjoyed our stay. The downtown area is very quaint and makes for a pleasant half day visit.

While in Mystic, don't miss the fabulous ice cream shop next to the drawbridge!

I went with a smart teenage girl a few years ago and she was givent he choice of the aquarium or the Seaport for a day. She picked the aquariam, and we both found it fun, interesting, and all in all, a good deal.

We went to Abbott's Lobster restaurant in some nearby town (Norwalk?) and that, too was an adventure. Eating outside, wathcing the boats, low prices, high quality, very casual.

I was at the seaport about twenty years ago and since it is an historiacal place, expect it has changed little, content-wise.

I thought it too was worth the admission, and worthy of half a day. I expect it is better than ever as far as guest facilities go, too.

About Days In and Comfort Inn.

The DAys Inn chain has a reputation for poor chain-wide management and it's possible to find nice Days Inn properties and really awful ones. I have no idea which category applies to Mystic.

Comfort Inns are part fo the Choice Hotels chain and my experience with this chain is extensive, and I find good standards everywhere. Again, Mystic may meet that, or be worse.

If it was me, I'd pick the Comfort Inn.

I'm alwo from this crappy state. but Mystic and the southeast in summer is actaully fun.. you can also go too the SS natolis (SP) a submerine in Groten.. "the submerine capital of the world".. or you can take a tour boat up the thames river.. the coast guard accademy is there..

Abbott's is in Noank -- but you can find similar places to eat in Mystic. I highly recommend the Aquarium and Mystic Village. If you like seafood, eat at GoFish in the village (as a former local, it is one of my favorite restaurants in the region). The US Nautalis in Groton is a great choice to see too. Clyde's cider mill is not too far from Mystic also.

I went with friends from the DC area a few years ago in mid september and it was fine. I flew to DC and we drove up.
I think we actually stayed in Groton which seemed close by and the village was interesting and had lots of different lectures on navigation, whaling etc... I guess it was like a very small Williamsburg. The restaurant there was nice and I got to experience quoahoags(sp?) which I enjoyed. I'll never forget this trip because on the way back, my right hand to God, we stopped in Monroe, Ct and visited the Ct Demon museum! Its run by the Warrens, Demonologist whom I've seen on TV and in books, anyway they have a museum with various things from their "investigations" that I certainly didn't expect to see in Fairfield County We also went to the big casino not far from Groton and though I'm not really a gambler it was an interesting evening.
