Myrtle Beach or Virgina Beach

My Wife, Myself, and our 9 year old will be going down south in August. We have been to Virgina Beach and loved it. This year we are thinking of giving V.B. a pass and trying out Myrtle Beach instead. Any opinions about this?

If you liked VB, you'll probably like MB. MB may be a little less tacky than VA, but not a lot. Better bar bands.

I live near VA Beach and like it (there are lots of non-touristy areas) but would say give Myrtle Beach a try, if extra driving time isn't an issue. There are lots of attractions your 9yo would like, including Ripley's Aquarium and the Alligator Adventure. Drive down 17 south to BrookGreen gardens, they have native animal attractions in addition to gardens. LOTS of stuff to do.

I would stay out of Myrtle Beach proper and go either a little north or south. The Grand Strand stretches out over 60 miles.

Not all of Myrtle Beach is tacky, just a little part of the area.
