Myrtle Beach in December
 

Considering a long-weekend trip to the new Hard Rock park in Myrtle Beach during the Christmas holidays. I know MB is a tourist town, but was wondering if things will be kind of dead during that time of year.

Once we do the park, what else might we find to do?

Long gone are the days when MB shut down over the winter. Virtually everything except the water parks will be open during the Christmas holidays.

So, depending on your interests, there are seasonal shows at local theatres like Carolina Opry, Palace Theatre, Alabama Theatre. In nearby Conway, our local theatre has a Christmas show:

And a can't miss event would be Brookgreen Gardens, even without its Night of a Thousand Candles:

Also, all shops, restaurants, etc will be open. With any luck, our great Fall weather will stick around long enough to make some actual beach time very pleasant.

Thanks for the reply and links, beach dweller. The Brookgreen Gardens holiday lights look pretty cool. It's good to know things won't be shut down during that time.

I won't count on much beach time, but it sure would be a bonus!

Don't be surprised if you have good pool weather.

The ocean temps will still be about 72 degrees early December so if it is in the 70s, you certainly can have a few good days by the pool and maybe even one at the beach. Too chilly for me but I see the snowbirds with savage tans in December!

Night of 1000 Lights is gorgeous! Definitely a Do Not Miss.

Also be aware that you will not have tropical weather in December. Often mornings are below freezing and average temps are closer to 60 during the day than 75. Still can be pleasant in December, but at risk.

The restaurants will be available. Even though golfers and snow birds are present during December, the city is at off season occupancy.

respectfully, I think you're being overly pessimistic about the weather. Do you live here? At least close to the ocean where I live, it's rarely below freezing during the entire Winter, much less in December. Possible, but very unlikely she'll encounter below-freezing temps in December.

Although snowbirds typically don't arrive until January, you're right that golfers and shoppers will be here, but no crowds like we have right now at the peak of the season.

I know weather is iffy in December. That's another hesitation about taking the trip during that time. However, I think hot and humid would be worse for a theme park visit...
