Myrtle Beach

My wife and I are thinking of honeymooning in Myrtle Beach, probably spring 2010. We'd like a 3.5-4 star beachfront...any recommendations? Also, when is peak season for all the spring break college students- would it be too crowded or crazy? Never been there, so we're trying to some research.

Myrtle Beach is fine, but it isn't exactly a honeymoon destination... is there a reason you are choosing it? If I were you, I'd stay further south in Litchfield or Pawleys... less touristy, less trafic, prettier beaches, a little more romantic. For 3.5 to 4 star accomodations, you'll want to travel into Charleston... there are some fabulous hotels in downtown Charleston (Mills House, Charleston Place, etc). However, they are not on the beach, but are instead in the historic area of Charleston- which I find incredibly romantic and enjoyable.

Do you want to be on the beach?

As for College Spring Break, it is usually the second week in March- some go the 1st week in March, but most are usually the 2nd week in March.

We just wanted to try something different, and thought of the American South with its history and nice weather. We're from Canada and we're not really into the Caribbean for a honeymoon. Does anyone have any advice for a nice destination in the South that has nice beaches and some historical places of interest, and would make a great honeymoon location?

Well, Myrtle Beach doesn't match that description.
For "historical" I'd stay in Charleston or Savannah and drive out to the beaches.

For a great beachfront location I'd recommend the Ritz Carlton on Amelia Island or the Elizabeth Point Lodge.

For a REAL treat, I'd recommend the all-inclusive on Cumberland Island - departing from Amelia Island.
