My Box Has Disappeared
I live in Europe but work in the U.S. I have been staying at the Sheraton 4 Points outside of the Detroit Metro Airport for the past five months.
On a recent trip from Paris I left a box at the front desk advising that I would collect on my return. At the time I was intransit to Asia, and did not want to take this combersome package with me. Upon my return from Asia , I had no time to collect this item as I needed to catch a flight back to europe just prior to Xmas. I called the hotel a few times to confirm that my package was safe and was advised that it was by the same woman who accepted it. Finally I returned to claim the package and was told it was not there. I gave a few weeks even went to the storage area in an attempt to identify it. Exhausted I left again, made several telphone calls some followed up, others havent. I contacted the corporate offices who informed that a response would be forthercoming in five dazs. None, and so after contacting once again was advised that the case is closed. No one had advised me that the case was closed or given any excuses. I am out of my items and not even given the respect of a proper response. Please help me,I am at wits end. Thank you. |

Should be interesting to see the response. I often have packages delivered to a hotel where I will be arriving and it usually works out fine, but don't know about leaving something after checkout to be retrieved at a later date. On ocassion I check bags with the bellman after checking out of the hotel and the the claim ticket (and sometimes signage) usually notes that the property assumes no risk for loss or damage.

It's a hotel...not a storage facility.
Sorry to sound so harsh, but in today's times, if I worked a the hotel, I wouldn' hold a pckage for too long either if at all...even if you had been staying there for several months. |
A hotel is not a long-term storage facility. They will hold packages for guests that they are expecting within the next couple of days - or will hold your luggage the day you check out until you're ready to leave the city.
But to expect a hotel to hold a package in perpetuity (you don;t say how long a time is involved but based on your itinerary it seems like weeks) is simply unrealistic. They are not equipped for this. And nowhere do you mention either a receipt - or how much you are paying them to store this box. I must say this situation sounds most odd - and without some sort of receipt/proof of payment I don;t see what recourse you have. |
They probably threw it in the trash. You didn't claim it within x number of days, nor did you call to say you would be delayed.

I am impressed with the quick responses and thank you all so much. The only receipt I got was a business card with the woman's name on it. And I do understand hotel not being able to have such long time service, but I go here three to five times a month. They know that I live in Europe and will be coming back.
I also have had items delivered to hotels, some of which I m not so frequent, but have never had any problems. Hope this has helped and thanks again. |
When you returned and couldn't find it, did you speak in person to the woman who had accepted it? I would try to connect with her, she will at least have a memory of what happened.

Yes, I have spoken with the women, she remembers accepting the package,also helping to secure it with tape. She also admitted to her manager about accepting it.
I had bought this beautiful Christmas promotion of a perfume by Hermes also a scarf. |
Oh. The fact that it was something useful and gifty (not some product display board or something) makes it likely it was deemed "forgotten" after what sounds like a long time - a month or more by what you wrote, and given away/purloined. So sorry about that.
