Very interesting and nice that you did it all by L.A. public transit. L.A. seems much more feasible now that's there a metro; when I went in the '90s (pre-metro and pre-me-having-Internet), everyone told me how impossible it was without a car. Whether they were exaggerating or not, I'll never know! Tell us, did you buy individual tickets or is there a day pass?
I've seen some unorthodox locations, such as recently Jacksonville FL, using the public transit system only. I find such destinations require one to come armed with bus schedules, which in this day and age is much easier to find thanks to the Internet. I was almost surprised at how much I could do.
So, Botox on the beach, that's a new one!

thanks Daniel, if I remember correctly I purchased a Metro Day Pass for 5$. For me using the public transit is a way to feel the pulse of the city much better. But I can understand if tourist using a car in L.A because its so huge.
Another trip I was staying at Manhattan Beach and I had car, of course did I see different things.

I agree about "feeling the pulse" of a place by taking transit, although I find that in areas of poor public transit, that "pulse" is more often than not the pulse of those who are JUST scraping by in place X. Looking out the window, listening to the conversations of your fellow passengers, seeing how people are dressed & what they are doing, you feel like you're actually a more a part of place X, wherever that happens to be.

Nicely done! I live in the LA metro area AND I never use public transit, but when I travel the first thing I do is investigate a city's public transit system and glory in not driving for a month! Congratulations on proving to a local that you can get around this car centric city without a car!

Thanks Annetti, It was an amazing day and I had lot of fun in your city.
In Europe it's even simpler to do things like that, especially in Berlin, Paris and London.
Have you been there?

Los Angeles welcomes nearly half a million overnight tourists every week....thank goodness most of them do not rent a car.

Yes, used public transit in all three places, never used a car. We've used public transit in lots of places in No Amer, too - San Francisco, Portland, Vancouver, Victoria, Toronto and most recently, NY. We usually buy a weekly pass or a monthly pass depending on the length of our stay.

I'll be going through LA next month without a car. DS or DIL will take me to Burbank (airport) to get on the Pacific Surfliner (Amtrak) to Union Station. I then get on the Sunset Limited and will be in Tucson in the morning.

DS= dear son, DIL = daughter-in-law, Sunset Limited is the eastbound Amtrak train that leaves Los Angeles Union station at 10:10 PM three days a week on its way to San Anotnio and New Orleans. I'm going as far as Tucson since I don't want to get off in Yuma at 4AM.
