Must Use a Free Airline Ticket (in US) - Need Ideas

Contributors to these boards are always very helpful, so I thought I'd turn here for advice.

I have an expiring credit that I need to use very soon and my vacations for the year are already planned. So, to make sure the credit doesn't go to waste, I thought it might be fun to visit a new city for a day or overnight.. Given these circumstances, where would people recommend? My only real criteria are that it be within a 3-hour flight from NYC, and that it be somewhere where the airport isn't too far from the major attractions.

Thanks, as always, for your ideas!

Chicago can be fun.

Boston fits your criteria - you can ride the subway into the city in a relatively short amount of time.

Does it have to be in the US? Montreal is another possibility.

Duh! I see your title says "in US"!

Washington D.C. - easy metro ride from the airport and lots to see! I love museums and they've got them! Try Newseum if you decide to go there! Good luck, lots of great ideas have been thrown out there!
