Must sees in Seattle?
I will be in Seattle for a conference at the end of May and beginning of June. I have never been to the west coast so this will be a real treat! Any suggestions on must-sees that I can do without a car?

I think Tillicum Village is very fun/ its an Indian Village on Blake island and you take a boat over - they serve the most wonderful salmon I have ever tasted/ you can spend the day on the island if you wish - the boat also does a tour of the harbour which is interesting.
In the evening I highly recommend the
"Teatro Zinanni" Its a cross between the Circ de Soleil and the Moulon Rouge-
located close to the Space Needle.
Its a dinner theatre and show - and its
hysterical- expensive but worth every penny in my opinion. The waiters are all part of the show and its performed in an antique wooden circus tent imported from Europe. Its hard to discribe but I cant imagine anyone not enjoying it -

And Tom Douglas is an excellent chef! I would love to see this show while we're in Seattle in June!
We enjoyed the Space Needle, the ferry ride to Bainbridge Island, Pike Place Market and the waterfront activity (the aquarium was even fun!) and dining at the great restaurants in Seattle. Pioneer Square was wonderful for our shopping spree in Seattle. Have a wonderful time! ***kim*** BTW, we didn't drive the four days we were in Seattle, our hotel had an excellent shuttle that took us everywhere! (The Edgewater Hotel.)

Not knowing your interests (whether more outdoorsy or cultural) here's my list as a 20-year Seattle-ite:
Ride a ferry
Visit the gorgeous parks
Lake Washington
Pioneer Square historic district
Chinatown/International district
Ride a trolley along the waterfront
Waterfront
Seattle Art Museum downtown
Space Needle & Seattle Center
Jazz clubs
Pike Place public market
Volunteer Park (asian branch museum, historic conservatory & water tower w/ great view from the top & all free
If you stay downtown there is a decent Metro bus system which is easy to use and free within the downtown core. Some of the things I've mentioned would be a 15 min. $1.50 bus ride away (like going down to Lake Washington at Madison Park for example).
If the weather is clear you'll get a view of Mt. Rainier to the south from many places around town.
If you're here over Memorial Day weekend there's Folklife Festival at the Seattle Center.
Sporting events, outdoor concerts, etc. are other ideas.

The glass bridge is part of the Musuem of Glass, it is open all the time but as sunbum says Tacoma is south and is a bit of a trek.
Let me also add the Locks in Ballard, easy to get there by bus and very interesting, especially with the fish ladder- salmon should be running at that time.
Teatro is fantastic but if you are by yourself it might not be as much fun.

mlynnhvt, this will be your first time to Seattle, correct? Certainly he/she doesn't mind us discussing great places to dine in Seattle, stormygirl!
mlynnhvt, the Dahlia Lounge makes the best pressed duck app! Do you have some places on your list for dining in Seattle? ***kim***

typical mo for kim, stormygirl.... op asks for must sees in seattle, and kim pipes in (for the umpteenth time) with dahlia lounge or some such. to start her own thread would presume there was something she didn't know, and of course we can't have that....

No, it's just typical Kimamom. Maybe, just maybe she has actually gone to a place, certainly the chef was not there but she didn't have a clue...does not matter, she'll go on and on. Clueless, but what do you expect from Fresburg?

I know what you mean. In Seattle she always recommends the Edgewater Hotel, which I haven't recommended since 1985 when I suggested it to somebody who hated me for it.
On the other hand, Kim is envariably good natured and upbeat, and I like that.
