Must Sees in Charleston and Savannah

My boyfriend and I are visiting Charleston and Savannah in two weeks for a long weekend. What are the must sees? Any walking tour suggestions? Also, restaurant suggestions - we want to do one nice dinner but mostly casual for other meals. Thanks!

I lived in Charleston for 3 years and my best suggestion is to take in as much of downtown as possible. For a long weekend only, I'd skip Savannah.

Good restaurants? What places to eat in Charleston aren't good?! You can't go wrong at Magnolia's, Slightly North of Broad, Carolina's. For seafood, try the Boathouse on the Isle of Palms.

Have fun...Charleston is my all time favorite city.

I loved Savannah and Charleston both. I enjoyed the horse and carriage rides in both towns if you get a good "driver" that knows a lot about the history and some useless trivia. Eat at The Little Pink House (Nice dinner) in Savannah it was great! Stroll down the river front but don't wear hills! It is cobblestone. Bocci's in Charleston was a great place to dine also. It was Italian and in a quaint building. I loved both towns but there was something different about Savannah that I liked more. Maybe it was because I went on St. Patricks Day! Have fun!

I prefer Charleston over Savannah but only slightly. You will enjoy both. For a casual lunch in Charleston, I would recommend 82 Queen St. and make sure you are seated in the courtyard. Excellent food and very romantic. For a nice dinner, there are too many great restaurants too mention here but I find myself going back to Cypress over and over again. It is very eclectic.

For a long weekend just stay in Charleston. Plenty to do and see without complicating it.

Consider picking 1 or the other to minimize travel time. I always vote for Savannah but usually get out-voted.

Bob Ellis Shoes on King Street in Charleston is a must see.

My wife and I visit Charleston several times a year and have done ALL the touristy stuff. Our FAVORITE all time thing to do is the walking tours - both history and ghost tours.

On Market Street there's a place called Bulldog Tours. They are wonderful. Best tour guides I've ever had the pleasure of touring with. You can read about them at www.bulldogtours.com.

Check out the Charleston Ghost & Graveyard Tour or the Dark Side of Charleston Tour - both were excellent.

Eat at The Boathouse and/or SNOB's.

Rent bikes.

Go to Drayton Hall.

WALK, WALK, WALK!!

Thank you all for your suggestions. We just returned from Savannah and Charleston and had a wonderful trip. I have to say that we preferred Charleston to Savannah though, but I'm glad we fit both in.

I'll be in both Charleston and Savannah soon. Where did you stay? What were your favorite things in each city?

Lauralee, do a search for 'savannah' and 'charleston.' There have been TONS of posts about each of them here over the past year alone.

msdonut, post a trip report! What did you do? Where did you eat? Where did you stay?
